When I first start up, for the first 5 mins until the engine is warm there is the fantastic what i can only describe as 'burbling' sound partcularily at the air intakes. This sound stops once the engine has warmed up but was wondering if the sound can be made anytime and if so what do i need to do??

    thanks,

That's normal, there's some type of valve at the exhaust, that opens and closes on temperature I beleive.

That sound is part of an emissions control that injects air into the exhaust until the catlytic converters come up to proper temperature. This decreases the pollutants put out of the exhaust when the engine is cold. This must have been a result of a US exhaust standard that Ferrari had to meet.

I do not know if you can make this system stay on after the car is at normal temperature.

It's the secondary air injection system. The ECU looks at the coolant temperature (cold) and activates solenoids which bleed extra air from the filter box directly into the exhaust manifolds just after the exhaust valves. The control for this system is through bank 1-4. This is what I know for US-spec models, however Euro cars may be different.

Ah, the smog pump to frig the emissions, remember one of those on my Porker 928, can't say I've noticed one on my Euro 348 though.
