    I am in the process of setting up to have my top painted. I have heard mention as to "taking off and replacing the caulk". Can somebody explain this to me.

    have you seen the top ? you will understand then . its a caulk line where the gasket meets up to the targa. your body shop will be able to do this, if you have no clues on how to do it...
