Does anyone know where I can find instructions on how to time in the cam shafts on a 3500 GT?

    Many thanks

    Hi Colin,

You can download the manual and parts catalog from Ivan Ruiz web site: The Car Nut
    http://www.thecarnut.com/maseratimanuals.html
Buy a set of micrometers because there are very few markings on the cams and crank.
Takes a bit of practicing but a bit of an engineer can do it:)

    Success,

    Bart

    Thanks Bart, already got that.

What is missing in the manual is basic set up data.

Like how many degress before / after TDC valves are fully open.

    Hi Colin,

I have never seen these valve diagram charts, never needed them either. I just followed the instructions in the manual at TDC and that always sufficed for my 6 in lines and V8's to make them run properly. Just make sure when doing this that you tension the chain an pull all (eventual) to the running direction, it is a bit of a precise job.

    Success,

    Bart

Colin, listed below is some limited info that may help. There are three sets of cams, maybe more for the six cylinder engines. This information was published by M.I.E. in the early 1980's
Cam Part# Timing angles Clearances (in) Tappet lift(in)

    1. Inlet # 48377 A.A.45 Deg C.A. 87 deg .004 .040-.050
    Exhaust#48377 A.S. 73 deg C.S. 40 deg .008-.009 .036-.040
These are the standard cams for most 3500.

    2. Inlet #48132 A.A. 35deg C.A. 72deg .012-.013 .080-.090
    Exhaust# 50022 A.S. 63 deg C.A 25deg .010-.011 .080-.090
These are the sprint cams that some engines had

    A.A Apertura Aspirazione
    C.A. Corsa Aspirazone
    A.S. Aspertura Scaricio
    C.S. Corso Scaricio

    Colin,

The valve diagram can be found on the car's
date sheet, an handwritten A3 format document
wich was made for each car at the factory.
You can use the general data but the document
specifies camshaft part numbers and valve timing
for a specific vehicle. Available at Maserati.

eogorman, thanks brilliant.our cams are 48377. I juts have to decipher the info now!!

Ruud, thanks for that. Unfortunately this car has a somewhat chequered history! Non original engine! Now has a carb engine when it should be injection!!

    Ho hum.

    Colin
