I'm Alan and new on FerrariChat thanks to Frank M. Here's two of my sweethearts, both a work in progress.

On the left is an everyday driver. Since this photo is ten years old, on the right is a college sophomore!

2786 has sat for the past 9 years or so and I'm dedicated to get her back on the road this winter. Just as the weather turned colder I did get her on the road and running better than ever! I was actually surprised when she didn't start this fall. So, first a battery followed by a bit of head scratching. Then plugs. Then an on-car light R&R of the DCOEs.

Ah, yes. Factory DCOEs on this 1964 3500 GT. The Lucas Injection was a factory delete.

Said "ah-ha" as I found that one of the float bowls wasn't filling due to a stuck float needle. Well, after that she was running but VERY poorly. Onward to ignition! All seemed in order until I turned off the lights in the garage, let my eyes adjust, and then enjoyed the light-show under hood due to the failed ignition wires! I had those on the shelf (but was surprised at the time necessary to feed those through the tube, make ends etc.) Heck, added a new distributor cap and rotor, too. I was still running on the original cap and rotor. THANK YOU for those responsible for having those re-manufactured!

The car started very well, revved very well, but on the road it was now a mess. Poor acceleration, no power, etc etc. Fuel flow seemed normal at the carbs but fuel pressure was close to zero! The culprit? A split fuel hose in the fuel tank between the pump and tank outlet (as I am running a submerged, in-tank fuel pump). There's a special submersible hose for this application.

Now she RUNS! And after adjusting the DCOEs she REALLY runs!

Actually, before I assumed she'd be an easy start after sitting for nine years, I started to R&R the hydraulics. Brake pistons were, of course, a mess, even though I replaced these 12 or so years ago. Tried the SS pistons this time. The bores in the calipers cleaned-up well with 600 paper. New brake hoses, too. New clutch master, slave and hose for good measure, too, as sitting has never been good for them, either.

Well, brakes still not doing a great job. Onward to the master brake cylinder and the pedal cluster. . . which is actually related to why I am writing!

No real problem getting the pedal cluster out. New rubber boots at the ready. Since the car is very, very original and complete excepting for some tools, paint and a re-sprayed interior, I'm trying to make it better with each repair. I'm also trying to determine if a condition I've discovered is normal or a hack repair by others. The pedal box, when viewed from the front of the car has a sheet metal "cover" attached with screws rather than fiberglass which may have been a shoddy repair. Or this may be metal protection for the this fiberglass pedal box (as I have not yet removed it for inspection or pulled back the carpet) Can anyone shed light on this area of the car? I bet many of you can!!

Thank you in advance. And I've enjoyed following most of everyone's threads. Some very strong opinions out there from time to time!

Sure Alan,...I suggest you post a photo. It would be helpful.

Nice car! But those side marker lights have got to go. ;)

    Best regards.

I find this car to be very interesting..
It has a very late VIN yet an early body with fog lights.
Alain says it's a Injection delete car, which I believe to be very possible.
I think it would be very interesting to see the build sheet showing how the factory wrote it up.

Also can you please post some photos of the engine compartment from several angles.
    Ciao,
    FGM

Pulley and balancer are off the car and time to reinstall. The front and rear portions of the harmonic balancer are indexed to each other. Yet, I do not see an index so that the balancer matches the pulley. The index marks I see seem to have no relationship to the keyway in the pulley.

Any suggestions from our very knowledgable readership?

    Thank you

What a great shot! Two beauties indeed. Very nice, Alan. Now I need to get one of my daughter with my car, before she hits double digits!
