What grade of every day engine oil are people using these days?

I was going to go 20W/50, but maybe 15W/40 is better, or even thinner!

    Synthetic or straight mineral oil?

    Thanks

    Colin

Royal Purple 50 weight. Or Red-Line straight 50 weight is what many people use.

    Ciao and best!

On my 3500 Gti I use Petronas ( Selenia ) HPX 20W/50 semisyntetic.
Two alternative good choices are :
    MOTUL 20W/50 (after 1950) mineral
    CASTROL classic XL 20W/50

Oops sorry, forgot most of you guys are in the US!! We do not have straight grades of oil in the UK. We are on multigrade so it works in all climates.

I have gone down the 15W/40 route semi synthetic.

We will see what the pressure is like!!

In north Italy we have very hot summers and very cold winters.

The reccomended oil grades (from Maserati maintenance book) were :
    Summer ---> SAE 50
Winter ----> SAE 30 (very low temperatures) or SAE 40
But consider that at those times, the multigrade oils weren't available.

20W/50 works fine in every climate. A 15W/40 may be good for the British climate.

    Ciao

    Andrea
