I noticed there are no large models of the 3500GT available on the market. I then became inspired when I saw this one off Conti 1/10 scale model 3500GTI being offered for sale at a price that would give most people pause, including me. You could re leather your interior including carpets for what they are asking for the Conti model. I then began looking into what it would cost to make a run 25 1/10 scale models and discovered the up front cost would be approximately $25,000 for 25 models and $1,500 to build each one. They would be hand built one at a time and could be painted the same color as the car you own and available with wires or hubcaps. These would be built by a well know US company and not in China. Build to an extremely high exacting standard with no opening hood, trunk or doors. Glass to be painted black but with all chrome bits. The model would need to retail for somewhere between $2,500 and $3,000. Of course, these models would need to be approved and licensed by Maserati. I am willing to stick my neck out for half of the start up cost but am reluctant to take on the whole $25K. I am interested in knowing if any fellow Mchatters are: A. interested in partnering with me on the production of these 25 cars. or B. Have an interest in purchasing one or more of them. Contact me off line if you have partnering questions. Ciao, FGM Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hello Frank, I have investigated this for a Khamsin, but 1/18 scale and larger quantities than you mention so the modus operandi is not the same but I thought I would share. Resin is cheaper and can be made in smaller quantities, with no openings. If you don't want resin making the master is the problem, even for the scale I mention it is 100000$. I almost had eine grosse heart attack when someone at Minichamps said no problem you need to order 8000 jawohl! I was told that 1000 would normally suffice but still...! I have been told about a Finnish company who make boat models from computer scans and I know the Khamsin in Finland would be available to be scanned. I have a particularly well connected model shop working on the resin option. It will be one or two colors for the production run if it happens though so for personnalized color they will have to be repainted. MS
