I have a list of annual 3500 GT copue ONLY. Production numbers from an old Italian car magazine from 1966. Can anyone confirm if this is correct? It does NOT include Spyders or prototipo cars.

    3500 GT:

    1957 ~ 3 built

    1958 ~ 133 built

    1959 ~ 207 built

    1960 ~ 257 built

    1961 ~ 351 built

    1962 ~ 270 built

    1963 ~ 179 built

    1964 ~ 21 built

    1965 ~ 1 built

about 1,422 cars, does this sound correct to our community of numbers experts???

    Best and Ciao!!!

That figure seems a bit low. According to Enrico's Maserati Pages (http://www.maseratighibli.co.uk/), the total production of 3500 coupés (1957-1964) was almost 2000. The information on his web page is allegedly official figures provided by Ermanno Cozza, so they should be rather trustworthy and accurate:

    Coupé by Touring 1973
    Coupé by Allemano 4
    Coupé by Frua 2
    Coupé by Boneschi 1
    Coupé by Moretti 1
    Coupé by Bertone 2
    Spyder by Vignale 242
    Spyder by Touring 2
    Spyder by Frua 1
    Total Production 2228

The production figures mentioned in Wikipedia are very similar (not very surprising since the entry cites Enrico's Maserati Pages as one of the sources), but there are some small differences; e.g. it lists two (instead of one) Boneschi bodied car and also a Zagato bodied coupé.

    Cheers,
    Gabriel

I think that the picture taken from the book " Nel segno del tridente" might help.
    Hope you understand italian.

This is the detail by manufacturer/type:
    Coupé by Touring 1973
    Coupé by Allemano 4
    Coupé by Frua 2
    Coupé by Boneschi 1
    Coupé by Moretti 1
    Coupé by Bertone 2
    Spyder by Vignale 242
    Spyder by Touring 2
    Spyder by Frua 1

    Total Production 2228 (2225)

    Andrea,
    the list is partly non-correct:

Touring made beside their 2 Spyders another prototipo (sn101.1502) as a coupe, Boneschi made 2 (sn101.2500 and sn101.2724)and Alemanno only 2 (sn101.002 and sn101.008) and not 4 cars!

    Ciao!

    Absolutely stunning cars!

...but back to the production figures: is it correct, as stated in Wikipedia, that one 3500 GT coupé was bodied by Zagato? Neither "Cozza/Enrico" nor "nel segno del tridente" book mentions such a car, and I have never seen a picture of it. Does(has) it exist(ed)?

    Cheers,
    Gabriel

This Zagato-looking car was never designed by them. Clearification came from them some days ago to the -new?- owner!

    Hi,

These are the production figures for the 3500 GT given to me by Sig Cozza at Maserati.

3500 GT by Touring: Total 1,977 cars

    1957 ~ 3 built

    1958 ~ 119 built

    1959 ~ 195 built

    1960 ~ 366 built

    1961 ~ 448 built

    1962 ~ 390 built

    1963 ~ 399 built

    1964 ~ 55 built

    1965 ~ 1 built

    1965 ~ 0 built

    1965 ~ 1 built

3500 GT by Frua: Total 2 cars

    1962 ~ 2 built

3500 GT by Allemano: Total 4 cars

    1958 ~ 3 built

    1959 ~ 1 built

3500 GT by Boneschi: Total 2 cars

    1962 ~ 1 built

    1963 ~ 1 built

3500 GT by Bertone: Total 1 car

    1959 ~ 1 built

3500 GT by Moretti: Total 1 car

    1965 ~ 1 built

From information on the Pietro Frua web site confirming 4 cars from this carrozziere, and another post by Walter Baumer stating that only 3 cars were styled by Allemano, we do have a couple of anomolies !

Perhaps further photographs may emerge of the scrapyard at the rear of the factory will shed more light.

    Enrico.

    Hi all,

I got from Fabio Collina the information, that only 1376 Touring Coupes were made.

This figure could be right as all Touring Coupes have even chassisnumbers.

In Ruud Bax list, which is since many years online, there is not a single car with a chassisnumber higher than AM101.2858.

Show me one car with a VIN for example higher than AM101.2900?

    There is none!

    Divided by 2?

    So simple!

    Hi Hans,

You appear to have made a valid point here.

Ing. Collina will be at Retromobile during the next few days, but I will certainly take the matter up with him on his return.

    Enrico.

The Maserati Sebring is in fact called Maserati 3500 GTis. The VINs start with AM101 (like the 3500GT) .
These were Vignale built cars I would not be surprised if these cars are included in this list.
    The number of Sebrings built is 591 if I am right . This includes the series 1 (101.01), 2 (101.10) , 3700 (101.S10) and 4000 models.

If the sebring cars are included in this list the next might be the case.
The number of Touring built cars would be: 1973 - 591 = 1382
The number of Vignale cars built would be: 242 + 591 = 833.

    Does this make sense?
    Marcel

I believe the correct number of Vignale spyders was 251. I know that spyder #2779 has body number 250. This was the highest serial number spyder.

If you add all the cars on the list which was published years ago the total is 251. The list can be found at this link:
    http://thecarnut.com/VignaleprototypesOther/vignalespyders.pdf

Vignale spyder #504 has no body number, therefore that was probably body #0.

The two Touring spyders and Frua spyder are not included in this number.

If I'm not mistaken that car was sold at RM auctions in the early 2000's, 2002 or 2003? maybe as late as '04. If I remember
correctly it was part of the Alfredo Brener collection and sold when he liquidated his cars.
I believe, I viewed that car at the preview for the auction, the car sold for an unremarkable price, as did most of the one off Maseratis offered at that auction.

The car is lost today. It appeared with registration in Munich, Germany in a short-movie by a German director. I spoke with him and the girl (then) who played the main character. The director confirmed that the car had been borrowed from a then time well known German actor.

It seems that the car returned to Italy later. From then on ...gone with the wind!

Does anyone know where the registry information went? Would be a great resource to bring it back as there clearly is some confusion on how many were built, etc...
