Sorry...haven't been on FChat much of late. Project is going well. Interior is being done. Having dash redone in leather since the original pseudo-leather vinyl-type stuff didn't seem good enough to me for a car of this quality. The original car was white/black...which I am going to continue. Couldn't get Italian stuff very easily so doing leather form Jaguar in black, smooth; carpeting/trim in charcoal color by Wilton. All chromed pieces have been rechromed and ready for installation. Once interior done, will finish out mechanicals and then back to paint shop...most likely for the Dupont white color shown earlier in this thread. When the interior is done I'll shoot a whole series of new pix and upload. Might have to pay up my subscritpion first thought! LOL. -Rob
Wow, this thread has been fantastic. I just stumbled across the F-chat via a post from another Maser Forum. This is great. A few years ago I managed to scoop up a very tattered, but original 3500 that was stored outside for some 20 years. It had 47,000 K on the clock. I was fortunate enough to get the Webers rebuilt (which were in the trunk & very corroded), the distributor converted by Pertronix (which was also in the trunk), and changed out all the rubber lines & hoses. Then I had the fuel tank flushed & coated by the local radiator shop, and I have been blasting the thing ever since! It's not a race car, but one sure feels like Hugh Heffner when driving it! I'll have to learn how to post photos here. Love these 3500s. In fact, I'm looking for another one, even a very rough, wrecked one for a special. Anyone know of any? Thanks, RF <[email protected]> AM 101-1512
Welcome aboard RedFred, I saw your car at the 2010 CI and felt it deserved recognition. Good find and good save. Ciao, FGM 101.708
Rob, Any update? Interior guy finish anything yet? Since this is the only "exotic" in your stable these days! -c
latest photos. Interior guy is the main hold up right now. The main restorer told me today that the interior guy has done the templates for the door panels and the seat frames are done. He has the carpet material and padding as well. The mechanicals are mostly done, the brakes, suspension and tranny are in. The gas tank has been redone and only needs to be bolted in. The engine is in and just needs accessories hooked up, radiator, etc. The carbs have been rebuilt. Th eplan is to chrome the weber intakes (I have the original airbox). Once the interior is done the mechanicals can be finished quickly. The windows go back in, then it is back to the body guy for finishing work and paint. Then the trim details, which I am told are being rechromed. Will still need to order a new wheel. I don't know how well it will show in the pix but the original dash was vinyl and the interior guy did a beautiful job putting in black leather. I thought the paint was done prior to the windows being installed. If not could you please tell me the reason? Regards, Ian

I would wonder about that too. Not to mention the interior. Why would they wait until everything is back together only to have to mask it all off? I would think they would paint then re-assemble everything. Looks like it will be a very nice car when done!!
Unless they are pre fitting the important stuff and then removing it again, prior to paint. I would do the same for all trim or pieces that come close to the paint. Nothing worse than trying to fit something like door trim on fresh paint.
Does anyone have some photos and or dimensions of a early 3500GT driveline as fitted to a car with a 4 speed ZF transmission? I would be very appreciative to have this information. Ciao, FGM
Now we have 4 (!!) threads about the 3500!!! Why not collect the technical stuff into the "3500 Restoration"-thread and hold the "Frank Mandarano Hist. photo"-thread for photos and historical issues? Its a little absurd to post the same request 4 times in 4 threads! Just my 2 $$`s Ciao! Walter
Hey, Nice Project! Where can i buy the chrome trim for the front and rear window? I come from Germany. Best Regards Leo
