Here some photos of 101.865 a stunning early one in gorgeous colours and excellent condition which I sold with a partner in recent weeks from the Uk to mainland Europe.

It was perhaps the nicest I have seen, with some interesting features, priced fairly as well (don't ask please) contrary to others who have cars that need lots of work and expect top price.

    Best regards,

    MS

One of the last Items on my punch list for the car is to install a pair of OEM MonoFlux fuel pumps. Cluck, cluck.
These pumps took me 2 years to find and I am still looking for 1 more pump for my Grey 3500 Coupe #916.
I also had to source the original fittings and have some original copper lines produced.
This is not so easy. In the end my friends in Modena were able to supply the fittings and lines.
This process took a year. In addition I had to source the diaphragms for the fuel pumps, again not so easy.
In the end the pumps were successfully rebuilt and installed along with the new fuel lines and now the car is fitted with the correct pumps.
Next up, the 800 mile drive from Palm Springs to LA then onto the Road Rally to Paso Robles and back to Palm Springs. There will be over 60 cars on this rally beginning on Fri the 29th. of this month.
Hope to see some of you at the Petersen Museum for the start of the Tour.

Has anyone seen a large fuel filter such as this one.
I just discovered on my car? It looks to be original.

As you can see it is 41/4" long and almost 21/2 " in diameter.
The overall length of the canister is almost 41/2" long.

Much longer than the standard 3500GT FISPA fuel filter housing.

Any information on where to get a fuel filter for this guy would be most appreciated.
Do any of you have this type of filter on your car?

That is a strange one to me. I have a FISPA filter but it is shorter and fatter, which is what I have seen on most 3500s.

The road Tour started Friday morning at the Petersen Museum.
The cars were flagged off every 2 min. and off we went to Paso Robles.
The first stop was at the Mullen Museum in Oxnard and then onto Solvang for lunch.
My navigator and I drove over from Palm Springs on Thursday afternoon, parked the Vignale at the Petersen threw a car cover on it and headed over to our hotel in Beverly Hills.

After we got onto the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) it was a glorious drive along the beach up through Santa Monica and on past Malibu.
The 3500 Spyder was made for this type of driving along the coast on a sunny day.
It just does NOT get any better that this.
We put 810 miles on the car in 4 days and it drove like the trooper it is. Never missed a beat, never ran warm, just dead on smooth. This car is now fully sorted and ready to drive anywhere...
Next week the truck comes to take both 1121 and 916 back home to Mercer Island where I will continue to enjoy both cars over the summer. Vancouver here we come.
First photo is at the Petersen departure. Second is in Malibu and third is at the Paso Robles Hotel at sunset.
810 miles and 14.3 MPG overall and yes the seats were very comfortable.

I didn't get to LA until much later in the day. Sorry I missed your northbound launch. Car looks great and 810 miles is very impressive.

    Next time...

The Vignale Spy and the Touring Coupe getting loaded for the trip to Mercer Island.
Both cars arrived and are now in my garage ready for the rain to stop so I can put some summer miles on them.

They are both beautiful, the Vignale and the grey Touring Coupe!

By the way, if you would like you could buy a new Bonneville from Triumph (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGcdX2i0d7k)

One of the benefits of spending the winter months in southern California Palm Springs area is that you can drive your old Maseratis just about every day.
Today Larry Ruben and I took 1121 out to The Thermal Club a private racing facility with homes built around the track. A truly spectacular idea.
The car ran like a Swiss watch with a very odd situation on the way back, in which the fuel pumps stopped working!! We pulled over and I simply checked the fuses, all ok there.
Rotated the fuel pump fuse, turned the key on and bingo!! cluck, cluck, cluck, the MonoFlux pumps sprang to life and off we went. Very strange....

    Hi Frank,
really strange the situation with your fuel pumps. Did you find out the reason why they stopped working ?

This is exatly the reason, why I did not dare to install my monfofluxes on the Vignale. I do not like unplanned outages when driving a vintage car. But I heard some stories these pumps are not really reliable ?
At the moment i am driving with modern pumps (from a Biturbo) but I would like to use the original ones - but with NO such surprises you described.

I would be glad to hear reports from other 3500 drivers who have installed the moboflux pumps. How does these pumps do in a normal use (in a traffic jam, when passing other cars, climbing up mountains, stop an go traffic, ....). Maybe there are some special tricks necessary to make these pumps more reliable ?

    Alfred
