Not really what I'm looking for, but perhaps another forum member might be interested: Beverly Hills Car Club :: 1964 Maserati 3500GT -
This one is in better shape @ $285,000 I think. http://www.symbolicmotors.com/inventory.aspx?_vstatus=3&_used=true&_special=true&_makef=maserati
Yes! That interior is unbelievable. Seems like it was ahead of its time, sporting a very 70s look. Put in a shag headliner and sell it to Elvis!
Ouch! Sure is pretty, and I get the Pebble Beach bit, but I hadn't noticed anything diamond encrusted or made out of solid gold. Hmph. BTW, I found it odd that they had a million pics of the exterior and nothing of the engine or interior. Weird.
To come back to the car in subject, what is a car like that worth today? From the photos I quite like it. It's a late car, the body appears straight, it has its' obvious shortcomings but appears unmolested to a degree. I am not a 3500-fundi at all, but I don't see the strips/profile on top of the rear fenders that I noticed on other 3500's. Is that right for the year? I like the cleaner look like this. Given that it is being offered where it is offered, one would need to step back and look again, but as a project it would appeal to me (at a lot less $$$). Bill's car looks fabulous. Best, Jack.
OK not an expert but his car would need a 100% restoration. Seems to be damage on the front and rear wheel arches and lots of key parts gone. I was thinking there are things I am not seeing and then the picture later had all the bits on the floor. I think it would need someone there with real expertise to do an inventory and restoration sheet/log to know exactly what to do. I like the look and the colour.
Well, lets have a look at the numbers. $25,000 Strip, paint, assemble $10,000 Sheet metal work, that front end is all wrong $14,000 Interior & headliner, not including pulling glass (see painting) $10,000 Service hydraulics, brakes, suspension etc $2,000 Tires mount & balance $7,000 Service & tune engine radiator, cooling system, adjust valves, Webers. $68,000 sub total Add $30,000 for engine rebuild if needed Add it all up and you have $98,000 including the engine rebuild. And as all of you know things always cost more, so add another 30% and you have $130 large into this fine work of rolling art. Oh, I forgot the purchase price of $80,000 and you end up with $210,000 Is the car worth that, or more, when finished? I say yes it is. if done to a very high standard. However the above does not include wear and tear on ones nervous system, which is a very BIG consideration. My 02 Lira Ciao, FGM PS This is a very quick assessment from my experience only, having not inspected the car
Numbers always put things in perspective, don't they? I didn't see this adding up either. Let me throw out another number. Here is a very nice early 3500 GT that recently sold in the mid $130s. Evans Automotive - 1961 MASERATI 3500 GT 59,992 MILES $149,995.00 VIN 101722
In retrospect (and without having inspected it) that seems to have been quite a good buy; a bit below market?
I've heard of other similar cars selling for similar money, so seemed about right. It's all in the details, of course.
Wow.....that one at Evans looks and sounded pretty nice! Previously had a restoration, plus the recent engine rebuild. Done by a knowledgeable shop as well! If that sold for about $135K, the one at Beverly Hills Car Club is probably not such a good deal. To bring the BHCC one up to the standard of the Evan's car, you'd be into it for much more than $135K + all of the mental torture.
Depends on how much you have to spend. To make it like the Evans car, I think you will spend the $135K. So add the bhcc cost to that... Going to have to keep it for a while to make that viable.... PS they already have a 2012 Maserati 'Sandy' car there; it's only $1,000 more! Good luck in your (continuing) search.
Oh boy, sounds like you estimate its value at $0. That's probably about right for a lower limit! I wonder what it's worth in parts? Not that I'm suggesting.......
Just saying that it's insanely overpriced at the ask, and that taking into consideration the likely expenses, you have to decide how long your ownership will be. It could be fun, and it WILL cost you $$, no matter where you start. Now, GO FOR IT! PS the Healey they have IS worth $0. !
That carpet is grotesque. In a much finer pattern it might be OK but it reminds me of some of the ugly ass bathrobes I used to see on drunks when I lived in the ghetto. After seeing an Espada with horrible shag carpeting in it that was factory correct I just has to ask ... Is it factory original?
Frank I still remember John Ratto's 3500 at the last Tahoe MIE meet. I wasn't interested in them at time because they were such an old chassis design. I haven't changed my mind but clearly I should have from a financial standpoint LOL!
