    Took my 3500 out for a little blast yesterday, and the speedo needle was wildly spinning all over the place. I'm wondering if there are any recommended rebuilders, as I have heard bad reports on my local instrament guy in Palo Alto.
    Also, by drivers side door doesn't want to latch, and keeps swinging open. I need the receiver that is bolted in the door jamb; the one that is attached with two large phillips screws, and has the teeth facing downward.
    Many Thanks & Merry Motoring, RF.

    Well, I would not recommend North Hollywoood, or Palo Alto as both have screwed up gauges for me.. Most repair shops do great work on glass, printing, etching and all the other visual sort of stuff.
    But when is gets to the inside, those little gears, or copper windings that's the hard part. you might try this site for recommendations;

    Instrument Repair

    if you notice - there is a guy in San Rafael, not sure if he works on foreign car stuff.

    It could also be your speedo cable. Might try a repair or replacement there.

    More likely than the instrument itself, the drive will be the cause. Start by checking, cleaning and lubricating the cable first.

    Best,

    Jack.

    Now that it's been mentioned, I have had issues with the cable; like it was too short, and would suddenly stop driving the gauge. I would have to unscrew it from the back of the dash, and pull the inner cable out of the sheathing some more so it would ingage.
    Thanks, RF.

    You may want to inspect the other end as well, the cable drive may be faulty.

    Best,

    Jack.
