    Early cars with the smaller rear lamps, 2 side windows, round fog-lamps and the chrome strip on top of both rear fenders.

    Here are two official pictures.
    You can see also differences in the nose and the front radiator grille.

    The chrome strip on top of both rear fenders were removed only in 1962, after almost two years of series II production.

    Oh....don't know...was on the car when I bought it (Naples tag?)...likely will try to put it back on. Also have the rear plate as well.

    Yes. Naples ( NA = NApoli) .
    If made of metal has been made at latest in 1963, if plastic from '63 onwards.

    Thanks...it is indeed plastic. I think it was the next year the previous owner shipped it to the US when his Navy duties in Italy were concluded.

    Also my '63 3500 GTI was originally registered and based in Naples.
    The second owner was a Navy officier who shipped the car to the US (NJ) during the '60s when he returned at home .
