Hello BIG Cat Fans. Yes, I have been working 70 hour weeks. It is tough to be the boss, and assembly crew. (because the Boss is a real stinker.) Now, on a three day weekend. Tippy got a brown wild oat in his Left eye. He was so good about it, idin't cry, let me get it out. Then he went outside, to lay in the sun. Left eye was frozen shut for a day. He is all better now, see him next to my Hill Engineering 11mm spacers. (No $ 120.00 Vet bill this time.) Note; my, 0.23" spacers didn't work. Stripped and primed front trim pieces. See my Bronze "Ferrari" script, from the early 70's, $ 90.00 on EbAy. Going to get Nickel Plated, along with my oil cap. Mine is Euro also, they didn't start US deliveries until late 1981. Mine was #73 off the line, delivered to Prince Saud Abdul Aziz at the dealership in Riyadh, I'm the 3rd owner, 32km, I've had it for 17 years. Your documentary reminds me of a guy in Dallas who had a US 308 that was very close to my SN, Rick Rainbolt. He documented his restoration much like yours in the early years of the internet forums. What color did you end up painting the intake grilles? I've only seen black ones on the very first prototype Ferrari used for promotion shots. I really thought they looked good. John, Big furry kitty.. Almost done with the motor,, the side cheese greaters,, aka grills. are in Limbo. I know to be correct, they are supposed to be Satin Black, but, PPG Nero shine would also look good. Your Euro looks Concorse down to the TRXs. Did the dealor paint your grills...? Did you get the arabic data plate..? Back to labor, Ciao, Edwardo
When I needed to refinish the engine louvers on my 308 a few years ago, I had them powdercoated. Not technically correct if you want to be 100% original, but it provides a much more durable finish than the original. They were able to do "satin" finish or various degrees of gloss. The place where I did mine charged $100 for as much as they can fit in their kiln. Got the louvers behind the headlights done at the same time. Just a suggestion if you're considering painting your "Cheese Graters." Marvelous work so far, by the way!
Bradley, Thank you, (Also, I remember Rainbolt.) &,, Mmmmmmmm. yes. Good idea. for, you know, I tried to save the non- original paint & primer, but, they were Too dinged up. Thus, in stripping them to bare metal,, I only "lost" $ 100 in wasted paint and labor. and, I am ready to drop them off at the powder guy,, and move on to the next more fun job. LOL onward, Edwardo
The dealership emblem is still on the car. The side paint is not original, the sides were painted and the bumpers and spoilers reversed the red/black. The prince apparently had this done to match the Mondial 3.2 until his came in. When it did, a guy in the oil business from Tulsa saw it at the dealership in 1985 and had it imported and DOT modified. The sides are more red than Ferrari red/orange but they blended it surprisingly well. They removed the cheese grates before painting, they are still original red/orange. I've never seen an original Mondial with black grates. I thought the same thing when I first got the car because of the pictures in the sales brochures, the US had red grates and the Euros had the black ones, so I researched it quite a bit, but I have never found another Euro with original black ones.
