It's good to see an update on your work. How does one break a piston ring, anyhow? As much as everyone says how bullet-proof these engines are, it's a little easier to find examples of failure than I would've guessed.

Just out of curiosity...a question slightly off topic...how often do the cylinder liners have issues with proper sealing in the block? It seems to me that this design is just asking for trouble with coolant seepage into the oil, even though I've not read any remarks alluding to that...Additionally, as the liners are not connected in any way to the block (welded, or otherwise fused), it seems like the block would not be very rigid. I imagine all machining processes on the block are with torque plates installed. Does this sound correct? Curious @ 11:14PM Rick
Rick, Yes, if you want to Balance and Blueprint one of these motors. and Yes, it is all in the book too. ( "Mondial 8 Workshop Manual") Torque the mains, torque the head fixtures on the liners. Measure the deflection. (+ -, 0.001" max) final hone with block under stress. ( but, the book doesn't mention the poor main bearing cap fit, Ferrari factory fatal flaw, # 154 ) Edwardo
Poor fit on the main bearing caps? You mean these things have problems on the inside too??? Are there any books that cover these value-added features? Rick
Good question,, I usually just ask Mr. Dynes. but, welding and machining used main caps,, is hard to do. or, you can make a new set.
Taz, Yes, he has killed a tree squirrel and a ring neck dove. :-0 Large pray for a 18 lb Bengal Leopard. ( I always get a slice,,, mmmmmmmmmmm.) Edwardo
