Members of the Forum, Regretfully, I'll be selling my 1981 Ferrari 400ia. My intention was to hold on to the vehicle long term but circumstances have changed. I'm am the fifth owner of the vehicle. It was sold new in Chicago then shortly thereafter, spent a good portion of it's life in the Florida Keys. It was then sold to it's second owner in Colorado. After that, the car went to a Forum member in Cincinnati. The fourth owner, also from Cincinnati, purchased the car approximately four years ago. I purchased the car just a short time ago. The vehicle is black on tan and has approximately 30k miles on it. Vehicle service history seems to corroborate this mileage. I have vehicle service history back to new (however, can't vouch as to it's completeness). The vehicle has the original owners manual, jack and tire tool. However, the tool kit is not present. I also have a reproduction shop manual and parts catalog. The Pioneer radio is inoperative. Though not installed, I do have a freshly refurbished Becker Europa with auxiliary cable that could be supplied with the vehicle, depending on final sale price (I always thought these looked really good in these cars). The clock is functional but cannot be adjusted. Therefore, you would need to disconnect the battery and reattach it when actual time coincides with when power was disrupted. The windows do function. The driver's window is smooth but slow. The passenger window is quick but hiccups once, midway when being raised. The fuel gauge is inaccurate. All other gauges work properly. The electric door locks function from inside the car but the key does not turn in the door tumbler. The car starts up instantly when cold and only requires light throttle on a hot start. The car idles smooth on both hot and cold starts. The car runs exceptionally well, particularly on the highway. It pulls very strongly over 3000RPMs. I very recently took the car on an 1100 mile road trip. The car performed flawlessly. Coolant temperature stayed steady at approximately 85 degrees C. AC was adequate (wasn't icy cold but certainly kept me comfortable). The car has been converted to r134 refrigerant. Some recent work includes the front calipers were rebuilt and pads replaced. Brake fluid was changed. Air filters were replaced and minor service/tune up work completed. The exhaust is a full stainless unit. The self-leveling suspension has been eliminated. The vehicle has two brand new TRX tires up front and two high tread units at the rear (60%-70% tread remaining, no dry-rot). I won't say the car is leak free but does not drip on the ground (underside just 'sweaty'). The belts are slightly noisy but are not in bad condition. The wipers only work on two speeds (intermittent and next speed up). The paint is in fair condition. The car is a good ten footer. The paint shines very nicely and the car is quite presentable. However, there's plenty of crazing, some light spider webbing, and other miscellaneous paint imperfections and door dings. The body is quite good but not perfect. There's some slight blistering around the front and rear glass. There's no rust around any of the quarter windows. The remaining body panels look good. There was some slight blistering at the bottom of the rear wheel wells but this has been spot treated and touched up. Doors, fenders, and underside look good. The leather shows its age but is not cracked, torn, or split. It appears the leather was dyed at some point in it's life. The door panels look good. However, there's some wear where one would would push the door open using their elbow (slight depression). There's some slight leather shrinkage on the dash at the base of the windshield. The headliner, carpets, center console, and wood trim are in good condition. Glass appears to be original and in good condition. Overall, this is a very nice driving and presentable 400ia. It's a car that could be enjoyed immediately and one could sort the details along the way. Pictures will be posted this evening or tomorrow morning. Asking price is $23k. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any other questions.
Here are some photos of the 400ia. Please let me know if you require pictures of any additional areas. Thanks. Thanks for the kind words. I'm not crazy about a sale but wants and needs are two different things. I thinks it's priced appropriately but the market will tell.
Good day Premoto1/Tyler, Just heads up that you best subscribe, otherwise your ad will be pulled. Fchat is somewhat lenient with ads posted by subscribers in forum (i.e. non classified) areas, but no so much with non subscribed ones. Cheers, Sam
I wondered about that. I tried to post in the 'for sale' section but was unable to, assuming it had to do with the fact that I had not subscribed. However, I had seen that others had posted 'for sale' in this section and assumed it was o.k. Now I see it's probably because they're subscribers as well. I'd be happy to subscribe but wasn't sure how to go about verifying my Ferrari ownership with other forum members as I don't know any personally (at least not that I'm aware of). I'll shoot a moderator a message about subscribing and let this post roll as long as they allow. Thanks.
I've now subscribed. I think I was confused about requirements for subscription. In any event, thanks for the heads up.
Let me give this thread a bump. I personally know Tyler and will tell you that you'll never meet a more honest seller. His personal cars are always top notch for their respective condition, and I'd most certainly pin this car up as an excellent driver which won't take a ton of work to put on to a show field. If I hadn't just bought an XK120 OTS, I'd be all over this car in a heartbeat!
Good day Tyler, Wow... $21K ... that is an amazing price! I wish I was in the market for an injected auto... Best of luck with your sale! Cheers, Sam
I used to make payments in support of 35477 as owner number five and all done with great joy and appreciation of it and the marque. I've known Premoto and bergxu for some years, now and both are upstanding righteous gearheads(gentleman) of local persuasion. Thusly, I would resume ownership of 35477 in a heartbeat were I not supporting two R107s. 35477 is dependable, powerful, good looking and affordable. I worked on it and can attest to its attributes & qualities. Gentleman of the 'chat', please give it a good look.
Y'all are killing me! All I need is $21K and parking space! As I was taking the trash out this morning, I saw my 2012MY daily driver getting offed, and my 1992 Mercedes getting revived as a DD to make this ride happen....... Anyways, even when my brain is working right (and not considering buying a second Ferrari), I wanted to say that I really appreciate your (presumbably) honest description. That sounds like a potential buyers' perspective on the condition of the car, not a sellers, which is a sign of an honest seller. Best wishes!
Just focus on the cash, a parking space will materialize. Thanks for the kind words. I've had an number of cars over the years that have gone off to far away places so I really want a buyer to know what they're getting. BTW, what's the '92 Benz?
It's a 190E. Only 8 valves. Slow as molasses, but I've got enough of a soft spot for it that I haven't made it go away even when I got a replacement daily driver... (That being said, it's for sale! Drive anywhere! Fresh Mobil 1!)
Sold on eBay for 'buy it now' of $23k. We'll see if the deal falls through (I kind of hope it does). Buyer seems to be a real car guy out of CA. This was my first F car but most certainly not the last. Would like to find a carbed 308. Maybe time to post a 'wanted' ad.
