355/348 Spider vs 430 Spider

    I am about to buy a used Ferrari for the third time. I bitterly regret selling my 355 Spider three years ago because the price of a replacement has doubled over that period! I am torn between the 348 and 355 Spider -- I realise that the 355 gets the accolades but the 348 is rarer (I want RHD) and I love those slats! However, I now see that I can buy a much more modern (although perhaps a bit less pretty) 430 Spider for the same price. Which of the three models should I go for? My criteria are (1) long term value preservation/appreciation at the current price levels, (2) driving experience and (3) reliability/servicing costs. It would be great to get some views, especially from those that have owned at least two of these models. Jules

    Well I am partial to the slats of course, but if you can get an F430, I drove one on the Thompson Speedway autocross course last year. The performance is awesome and I would love to really use those paddles. But it's newer tech if you want to work on it.

    I'm afraid none of us here have the ability to predict the future. Those that did have left and are now quietly getting rich in the financial sector. In short none of us can help you with your first criteria. As for your remaining two, to me, the F430 is the easy choice.

    if they are of the same price.....the f430 without a doubt......as much as i would be more partial towards the 348 or even the 355, the 430 should not be even compared to the former two in regards to pure performance......however in regards to value, its defo the 348 spider....the rarest of the three (there are no 355 fioranos in RHD)

    I had an F355 Spider stick and I currently have an F430 Spider stick. As KM1959 says, none of us can predict the future. As far as driving experience, both are great with the F430 having a bunch more power and having a powerful grunt of an exhaust. The F430 feels solid compared to an F355, and maintenance is greatly reduced with the chain drive and no engine out belt service.

    But one thing I miss is the sound ... nothing sounds as sweet as an F355 ... absolutely nothing.
