I have an idle problem on my car (a 97 355 spider), so i decided take care of it, I cleaned my MAF, and also decided to look at the TPS, removed the TPS and found it to be dirty inside, take a look. The Ferrari part number is 158170 and Bosch part number 0280122004 sells for $75, found another Bosch 0280122001 which according to Amazon should fit my car, for $27, so I got the cheaper Bosch part, installed it, ran the car for about 30 minutes and the car seems to idle better, tomorrow I'll drive more, so I'll have more input. As to the 2 different Bosch part numbers,.can anyone chime in and let me know if there is any difference between them?

Does not look dirty to me. Just looks like some liberal use of dielectric grease to keep out moisture and keep corrosion at bay. Now if the "spring fingers" in the connector have lost some tension and you have some thick, old grease in there it may prevent an ideal connection. Since is operates at low voltage (about 0 to 5.0 volts) you want a decent connection. Some "safe" spray solvent would probably clean all that up nicely. Having said that, if you can get a quality TPS at a low price it would not hurt to change it. I would still clean up the connector and maybe apply some Deoxit liquid.

Drove the car today in rush hour, twice, morning and evening, car idles consistently at 1000 RPM when decelerating and going to neutral, I can't even remember the last time my idle was so perfect. I would recommend everyone with an inconsistent idle to remove the TPS and either clean or replace it. I actually replaced mine since it's so cheap, probably the cheapest part I've ever replaced, but I'm sure that the old part will work too after cleaning.

When I had an idle issue (also a 97 spider), the other items to check are the following:
    1) Remove and clean the idle control valve (flush carb cleaner through it) also check and clean the electrical plug
    2) Clean the electrical plug to the MAF. After each time I cleaned the plug connections on the MAF, my idle would restore to steady...but weeks or a month later, the idle would become unsteady. Cleaning would restore it temporarily. I ended up replacing the pins on the connector, which fixed my wandering idle issue permanently. I think the female pins on the connector were losing their grip on the pins of the MAF.

I actually removed the MAF and ICV first before I removed the TPS, they were pretty clean.
