Hello can someone please advise on how many wires are involved in the engine harness that pulls through the bulkhead and connect to the ECU on a 96 5.2 355 GTS thanks in advance

You must have a different question, other than how many wires. Did you break a wire or two?

Maybe he is considering doing something smart like installing a bulkhead connector? If so good for him. That was a really dumb piece of engineering. They should have at least not made the hole JUST big enough to get the connectors through.

Every time I am pulling cables through I feel a strong urge to be introduced to those responsible for the design.

Correct I'm going to put a bulkhead fitting so I wish to purchase military connections. So I need to know how many wires are in the loom

There is an 88 pin connector but not all pins are used.
There are 3 other connectors with 3-8 pins each.
So, if you provide 100 pins, you will have just enough.

I agree with Rifledriver, they could have made it 1/4 inch larger and life would be grand

You and me both. I am actually adding additional pins for future expansion (so to speak). I plan to run aftermarket equipment as well what is required for the factory harness. I went with 30 pin connectors (6 Metri-Pack 480 series terminals and 24 Metri-Pack 280 series terminals).

In theory, the 5.2 ECU has 62 pins used on the connector, in reality I will probably need only 54 of these pins (CANBUS and some exhaust related stuff that I can ignore wiring to the ECU in my case). So three of these 30 pin bulkhead connectors is overkill.

So how many wires in the actual loom is really immaterial, but here is a list:

    Ignition/Power:
    Row 1 26 Red 12V Fused
Row 2 54 Green 12V Power from Relay, Pin 87B
Row 1 27 Yellow Red Main Relay Controlling 12V to Ignition System
Row 3 56 Yellow Black Ignition Lock

    Grounds:
Row 2 46 Blue Black Ground Analog
Row 2 34 Black Ground Chassis
Row 2 55 Green Black Ground Chassis
Row 3 71 Black White Ground Chassis
Row 1 6 Black Ground, Chassis
Row 1 28 Black Ground, Shield

    Engine Timing:
Row 3 78 Purple Black Crank Position Sensor pin 1
Row 1 20 Purple Crank Position Sensor pin 2
Row 1 21 Pink Cam Phase Sensor Pin 2

    Timing Adjustment:
Row 3 70 Yellow Black Knock Sensor 1, Pin 1
    Row 2 40 Yellow Knock Sensor 2, Pin 1

Row 1 17 Red Black MAF Pin 2
Row 2 45 Red White MAF pin 4
Row 2 53 Red Blue Throttle Position Pin 2
Row 2 44 Grey White Throttle Position Pin 3

    Row 3 77 Purple O2 Sensor, Bank 1, Post Cat, Pin A
    Row 3 76 Purple O2 Sensor, Bank 2, Post Cat, Pin A
    Row 1 19 Green O2 sensor, Pre Cat, Bank 1, Pin A
    Row 1 18 Green O2 sensor, Pre Cat, Bank 2, Pin A

Row 1 16 Blue Grey Air Tempertature Sensor Pin 1
Row 3 74 Grey Black Water Temperature Sensor 2, Pin 1
Row 3 73 Purple Temperature AGK

    Ignition Outputs:
    Row 2 51 Pink Black Coil Bank 1, 1-4, Pin 1
    Row 2 49 Purple White Coil Bank 1, 1-4, Pin 3
    Row 2 52 Purple Black Coil Bank 2, 5-8, Pin 1

Put the ECU on the rear subframe so you just drop and go

My 355 CH has it and the 348 is getting it next service, I want to get them in the air they get hot behind the seats

    :)
