Changed alternator on my '97 355, and can't find the mounting bolt torque specs, specifically the bottom bolt with the spring on it. Whats the tension on the spring supposed to be, before setting the second locknut?

I have never seen one come loose. It's M12 bolt, 8.8 grade, I think 45 lb-ft is more than good enough. It has a spring, and second lock nut. How's it going to come loose?

I was under same impression, 45-50 lbs
Was more curious on the spring part, amount of compression it needs, gap between coils maybe.
    Thanks buddy.
PS- careful whoever rebuilds an alternator for anyone.
I got hosed out of $300 for a ‘spray bomb’ rebuild, didn’t even separate case, just changed rectifier with some cheesy brand and painted cover. Good ole Vancouver Canada for you.
Found a great shop in Cali who sent correct bearings, parts etc.Works just like new again.

How tight? Tight. You know, tight. not loose, not stripped. won't come off till you want it off. tight.

IMO, things with gaskets need torque spec so it evenly loads the gasket. oil pans, the front cover, valve covers...stuff like that.. all the other stuff, just make sure it doesn't come loose. The majority of nuts on my 348 are nylon locking...they're likely not coming off..
