I want to thank you all for your information on this site for I have been reading a large number of 355 threads fairly regularly for the last week or so. I think my wife thinks Im addicted to porn..... I'm seriously thinking about buying a 1998 355 Spider and using it as daily driver.

Does anyone out there do so?

I live in Norther California. My office is about 5-7 miles away from my house. I currently have an M5 but believe I would have to sell it and buy a 5-10K beater to drive around in when not driving the Spider.

Thinking about paying the $500 for the PPI to be done in the next day or so and would appreciate any feedback

My only advice is watch more porn.... Sure use the 355 as a daily driver---Especially being that close to the office.

What he said. The 348/355 section is a moral hazard, IMO.

My concern there would be the office is not far enough away. Most engine wear occurs until oil is up to operating temp, and 5-7 miles isn't going to do it.

Hate to say it, but that is what I was thinking. Having to deal with Winter's here on the East Coast, EVERYONE says don't just start up the car and drive it three miles and then put it away; better to not drive it at all.

If you take a long cut to work every day and go about 15 miles each way, I might consider it, otherwise, get a Golf Cart and Help O save the environment! You are in CA anyway right? Do they even allow Ferrari's in that state? So many emissions, so little time.

355 as a DD is no problem but 5-7 miles is kinda short...

It would be like having Carmen Elektra for only 5 minutes, by the time you got her all warmed up you gotta put her away....

Just because the office is 5-7 miles away doesnt mean he has to take the quickest way there ....... :)

Maybe instead of pulling out of the drive way and turning left, try turning right...... that usually does it for me... :) :)

I live in Singapore and use my 355 as daily driver.. I take the normal way to work but usually take longer route to come home. No problem apart from blowing my water hosts twice and had to be towed away and 2 more times with elec problems. Daily drive is cool

    Agree, watch more porn!

Go for it! But if you have to sell the M5 and have a beater on the side to afford it you better count on that beater being a bicycle. I think whatever you save moving from the M5 to the beater will be more than soaked up by the added cost of maintaining even the best of modern Ferraris.

I personal find that the a mid engine car needs to breath more air to stay cool.lol That means driving it faster than 35-45mph in traffic. My physician friend drives a Toyota Corolla 1997 daily but has a Lamborghini in his garage as anti-depressent to each his own.

Guys, look at it this way, if he lives 20 miles away from the office he doesn't get to start out at the 8 mile mark. He still drives 5 - 7 miles and then another 13 after that. As long as you are letting the car warm up to proper operating temperature, the driving distance is irrelevant.

The only issue I have with it is the amount of time it takes for the car to warm up. I used to use mine as a daily driver, finances aren't as good though so not taking the risk with anything breaking or clutch which I know is coming up in 5-10k miles.

My car take's about 4-5 miles to fully warm up (oil temp 200-210 deg. depending on ambient temp), you could take a longer scenic route to be kind to the engine, I use a beater for daily/winter driving, that way when in the F car it remains special and avoids unecessary wear and tear, I have done this with most "toy cars", I've owned--best of luck!

One of the highlights of the day is my drive to and fro the office. It is 45min away and all superhighway (401). The only problem is our short season but I honestly think the more/harder you drive it (within reason) the longer it will last. My father bought an P s4 in 1988, this car has 978,876 kms as of this morning, (all summer km except for the last 2 winters), and I F1 it on the highway. It runs like a top. Once it gets to 1mil I'm going to send the info. with pics to porsche then probably track it. I intend to drive the f-cars every dry day in the summer. I think they are meant to be driven and driven hard, (not ramy but hard).Sort of like say... Carmen Electra!

BTW if it makes it to this summer, it will get it's 21st set of tires.
