I think I've done my part by searching the archives and the question of "What should I get B/GTS/Spy?" has been asked several times but I wonder which version will have the best resale?

It seems that you can get a well sorted 355 regardless of roof-type for $75K. This is a car that has HAD it's 30K service and any/all cats etc. updated.

Is it as simple as looking at resale now? If so, all three are equal. Looking at the 3X8s however, it seems that the GTBs are infinitely more rare and therefore more expensive.

    Thoughts?

I would have thought the spider has highest resale simply because it was most expensive model in 355 lineup. There aren't that many in UK , not sure about US tho'...

In virtually all "new" models the spyder will bring more on resale.

The 355 Spider cost about 10% more new, and it seems to be worth roughly 10% more now in the UK. But according the the US Sports Car Market magazine 2004 price guide, top price for a 355 B is $75k, but $115 for a Spider - that's 50% more.

In the future my guess is that the Spider will be worth a lot more than the others.

Why? Well, if you look at values of older Ferrari Spiders, it's clear that they're considered much more desireable than the equivalent Berlinettas. The Daytona Spider will cost you maybe four times as much as a Berlinetta. But you can't really extrapolate price comparisions from the '60s cars, because they were made in such small numbers compared to the Berlinettas.

A better comparison might be the E-Type ('XKE') Jag. The coupé and roadster cost about the same when new, and the roadster was made in slightly greater numbers. As they cost about the same new, I expect they were valued about the same on the second hand market when they were say 10 years old. Now though, the roadster is worth about 100% more than the coupé, although most people think the coupé's more beautiful.

My guess is that eventually the 355 Spider will be worth 50% to 100% more than the Berlinetta or GTS, but it could take another 10 years for that to happen.
