Is there a + terminal in the engine compartment on the 355 where I can hook up a trickle charger? I thought I read that there is one on the passenger side but I don't see it and couldn't find it in search. Perhaps I'm dreaming I read that.

Look in the right rear corner of the engine compartment. There's a black plastic cover with a + on it. At least that's where it is on my '98 GTS F1.

No, there IS one there, but in classic Italian engineering foresight, they cover up the terminals with the long metal cover (where the emissions stickers are placed) over it so they're invisible. You'll need a metric hex wrench to remove three bolts, lift off the cover, and you'll see a plastic cover marked "+" over the positive terminals. Lift it up, and you'll find three posts you can connect to; any of the three is fine. Near it is a ground post.

Do a search of the archives, and you'll find a thread by me on how I semi-permanently wired-up a quick-disconnect connector for the Battery Tender automatic charger, so when I pull into the garage, I pop the rear lid and plug it into the dongle, voila, auto charging!

I will suggest a simpler approach that I use on my Ferrari and since its generic I also use it on my other cars; Buy a battery tender from your local car shop or Wall-mart. Add a 12 volt accessory plug at the end and simply plug it into the cigarette lighter. I basically plug it in any time the car is sitting in the garage. This way you save your alternator from having to work hard to re-charge the battery and the alternator is really the item you want to conserve since its much more expansive then the battery.

Call PRESTIGE AUTOHAUS, in Walnut Creek, CA (925 937-9400). They have Battery tenders for Ferrari with the cigarette lighter adapter already spliced in.

Took the panel off and bingo. Classic Italian engineering indeed but I could have looked harder. I hooked up the adapter for the tender. I assume you have to have the main switch "on" to charge or does that cable terminate on the battery side of the switch?

As you suspect, the main switch does need to be on for the battery to charge. I've left it on all winter, with the Tender, without any problems.

The cigar lighter plug hooked up to the Tender is also a good idea - Dave Handa posted details on the same thread that I wrote previously about wiring up the dongle for the Tender out back.
