Anyone use a battery maintaner that plugs into the cigarettle lighter?

I understand the dealeship "installs" a pigtail to the battery but I'm not sure this level of efort is necessary.

I've been looking for a 355 and F dealers all tell me that disconnecting the battery with the switch (under the hood/bonnet) stops it going flat.

So, what is the catch with disconnecting the battery? I assume you guys have tried that.

I use the batterytender Waterproof w/ the cig. lighter adapter option and it works great. I used to use the batt. cut-off switch but that messes with the ECU and the radio presets.

Works fine....I spliced a cig lighter adapter (with 8 foot cord from Radio Shack) using a Deltran Battery Tender. I am not on my computer, so I don't have the links handy, but if you do a search for "battery tender", and you will find my posts with all the links.

The advantage of going this route, is then you can easily use the battery tender on any car you have.

Currently I am using an "on board" charger, as my local dealer installed it for me as a favor.
