just a note to those out there with 355's. the new interstate battery will work on a 355 but you will not be able to use the bolt down holder, unless you modify the metal on the car. the lip on the battery will not go under the cars battery lip. buy a optmum.

I recently had a similar problem with my 360. Battery was so bad it would not even engage the solenoid! So, I was required to replace to get it started.

I used an Interstate MTP-91. The bracket did not want to fit as it did on the OEM battery, so I put 3-1/4" washers on eack hold down bolt between the nut and the metal bar.

This allowed me to slightly oscillate the metal strap to get a very good grip on the battery.

I do plan, when I have a bit more time in a week, to again remove the bracket and then cut it a bit to fit around the molded housing on top of the battery.

I did a drawing of what I felt would be required for them to change on the battery top with that molded section partially blocking the bracket. I forwarded it to interstare's main office in Texas. They indicated an interest to make a change and then to list the battery on their web site as a direct replacement.

The battery vents externally perfectly as does the OEM Varta.

The MTP-91 rolls my engine over like a rocket now!

Van, did you buy the Interstate size Group 34R? (I think the Interstate part number is MT-34R. That is the correct one for the 355, and most models going back to the 1970's. It should fit fine, it did in my 355.

The MT 91 was what came out of my 355 but I replaced it with a red top optima.

Well, next time I check the water, I will take a look at mine...I wonder if they changed the design?

360 battery secures for the front top side with two bolts (#5) connected to a metal strap which sits on the front battery edge (#6) and which pulls from the bottom center of the base of the mount.

    It's an angular pull.

So, the 355 is quite different if it secures from the bottom.
