If one had a 100% perfect 355Gtb and merely wanted to change its color from let's say black to rosso or yellow to rosso...open budget...where are the top shop/s nationwide to consider this having done? Thank you.

Wow, that is a hard one to answer. If I was looking for a color change that was factory/concours quality I would expect it to run in the $20-30k range depending on the shop. This is assuming the car is straight to start with.

That price range seems to be the "sweetspot" for concour quality work, thanks for your inputs.

Very nice! How long did it take for the paint shop to do this, start to finish?

3 months exactly including the holidays so I guess you can say 2.5 months. Brought her in december 15th and will be taking her out on march 16th.

All that's missing is the black stripe on the back bumper and on the side which will be done this week.

Fab, we all commend your work but in general, if you already have the car and its not green :) why not just sell it and buy the color that you want. I am pretty sure you wont be our 10K by swapping the car. ITs a lot of work trying to do a color change unless you are trying a tackle a challenge and keep yourself busy doing something. I can get the color change done at my shop here in Los Angeles County (spray boot and all) and I know 355s in and out probably at a cost of 8K or so. If interested, let me know.

I also wanted red and ended up with black. Looks stunning in person and attracts less attention. But if only red will do, just hold out. Might even take less time than repainting, as more than half the production was rosso corsa if you extrapolate from the 355 registry data:

    http://www.ferrari355registry.com/Ferrari_Statistics.asp?pDV=C

Now if you want a rare 355 color, as treedee3d did with rosso scuderia, then repainting makes sense.

My paint job cost me very little and the body shop told me that he missed the mark when pricing this job. He had done a 328 before and that's what he based himself on. A more realistic figure for him should have been 9k to 10k.

In the end, it will be a marketing tool for him and he has enjoyed my bringing in coffee and muffins every few days lol!

The response to the "why not buy the color you want" argument is quite simple: odd colored 355s are listed for sale 15k to 20k cheaper than an equivalent one in Red. The green ones are listed cheaper and take longer to sell than the red ones. In the end, my car looks newer and cost me less. Also, in my case, the color I chose does not exist on the 355, it' a color that appeared in 2002.

I completely agree. I found a car that was good mechanically, and I knew the entire history of the car as I have the dealer print out of the service history from day 1. But I also wanted red, but this car was black. If you are not planning to sell the car, then buying a known car, even if it is not the colour your want, is a better option. Because a paint job can only cost so much, where as mechanical gremlins and a car that has not been taken care of mechanically can be way way way more costly.

I was looking at going Red Barchetta (Rossa Barchetta 312). I am looking for a darker red. Tan leather, black carpeting. I also say this Rossa Mugelle?? at Ferrari of Ontario today. They were great. I explained I had not bought the car from them, what I wanted to do, and they went and pulled the paint samples and tried to help me out with the choice. Barchetta looks great in the sun, but in the garage seems almost a wine colour. I am looking for a deep dark red, but a red you can still tell is red when you see it. Seems this Mugelle?? is the modern day version of Barchetta and seems a tad more red. If anyone has picks of Barchetta can they please post them? Rossa Scuderia looks great too!

PS - I have been quoted about $12,000 for a bare metal paint job colour change from Black to what ever red I choose.

In regards to stripping the paint, I posted a poll right here on fchat a short while ago and the experts chimed in with different opinions but in the end it convinced me not to do a bare metal strip job.

It wasn't a question of money for me....I wanted the best possible job and the best results in the hopes of getting the best looking repainted car as possible
