So, to summarise, the GTS with the roof in is more rigid than with the roof out.
(I'm not an engineer but I can't believe anyone would think otherwise)

It also has extra bracing here and there which accounts for the extra weight over the B.

So if you are a normal driver unless you are driving really hard you probably won't notice any significant difference driving a GTS with the roof on to the B.
With the roof out, you probably will if you are driving hard.
I don't want to drag others into the debate, but I noticed on another thread that an owner of a B upon driving a GTS said that the driving experience is "identical".

The Spider may be different, but it offers other advantages over the others.

That should now answer the OPs question.

I'm in the process of buying a 355 and just came back to the board for the first time in awhile. Not knowing a single one of the posters, you can't believe how childish and immature this thread reads. What people will say to folks they don't know and don't have to see face to face is unbelievable.

I guess you can start in on day one ripping me too, but insulting people is not what FerrariChat used to be for. Has it changed that much?

It has been this way forever. That is why Ferrari-Talk and Ferrari life came to being. The 355 Board is the current Fchat hotzone. A recent thread aims to stop that after a talented knowledgeable three Ferrari owning 355'er got banned while the usual suspects fanned the flames. We will see how long the cease fire lasts.

Taking sides with "Nikki Sixx" (Jeff) since he bought one of your cars...

You could stop fanning the flames by coming to this section for no other reason. Thank you.

I don't think that is a fair statement. It is not the members who decide if someone should be band. It is the moderators who make that decision based on what an individual posts and how he behaves. The individual got band because of his behavior, not the behavior of others. We are all big boys here and even if some don't play nice all the time it is still up to each individual to know where it is and not cross the line.

« The 348 sports coupé was introduced right after that, a « Ferrari » built in line with FIAT traditions, suitable for vehicles of limited power output; it was the lowest point in the history of the cars with the Prancing Horse. Among its many defects was a chassis that deformed to the point where the sunroof wouldn’t even return to its housing”.

Mauro Forghieri, as quoted by Daniele Buzzonetti in “Forghieri on Ferrari”, Giorgio Nada editore 2013, p 233.

(Mauro Forghieri was Chief Engineer at the Scuderia Ferrari from 1961 to 1984; and then worked at the department for road cars advanced engineering)

Your post prompted me to re-read the entire thread.

I had a bit of a chuckle (including at some of my own OTT scotch-fuelled posts) but I don't really see the big problem.

If everyone always agreed with everything everyone else said, what would be the point of participating?
I would also bet that the amount of traffic on this site would plummet which wouldn't impress the sponsors very much.
And, although some of us can get a little carried away at times it really isn't that bad.
The occasional really out of line posts are dealt with quickly by the mods, and that's as it should be.

The most important thing in relation to this thread is:
I was right all along.... Lol!

    :)

    Good find indeed.
    Unbelievable.
Only in Italy could this be so. (Spain as well but they don't make anything that can't be drunk or eaten) :)

To be Frank...if You Can read Italian, and are interested in the race history of the Scuderia, yes...if You can't read italian, the English translation is poor, and the book expensive, so...and it is mainly on Forghieri's experience on racing...but if You consider Forghieri as the key character of the Scuderia during the sixties and seventies, well...

I stumbled across some interesting quotes in a book titled "Ferrari 308 328 and 348: The complete story".

    It states-

    (in reference to 348)

"The resulting body shell in berlinetta form was an impressive 59 percent more resistant to torsional loadings than it's predecessor, though the 348ts could improve on the 328 GTS shell's stiffness by only 5 percent"

In regards to the spider, it states-

"The fully open bodywork exhibited the same level of torsional rigidity as the ts and there was little of the typical convertible's defining dynamic weakness of scuttle shake. Strengthening had been applied to the cars windscreen frame and to the side members to restore the rigidity lost with the amputation of the ts's b pillar roll structure"
