So my car was idling rough and surging at high rpm heavy load (what you experience with WOT start off). I always suspected something was not right in looking at repair0 orders after the last engine out. The people that did the last major obviously didn’t know what they were doing. Anyway, you can see in the attached photo Image Unavailable, Please Login what the problem is.

What method are you going to use to check it

They are assembly marks only. Best degree it to verify. The assembly marks are usually very close though. A lot of people say, oh, my headers failed early.... cam timing has a direct correlation to header life.

Car is at ***************** in Atlanta and in good hands with Wade Williams. He said something about attaching a “degree wheel” I believe.

So, how did you position the motor before taking that photo? What is the reference - are you at TDC and if so, how did you find TDC?

This is the photo that Wade sent me. He is working on the car. Not sure. I want to say he did some measuring from the top of the piston. I could be wrong though. I’ll find out.

Thanks - did not realize Wade was already into it. You are in very good hands and I'm certain he took that picture with #1 at TDC.

Tried to post a video with the degree wheel. Anyway, cams were off 15 degrees. Don’t know the margin of error for the wheel.

The wheel doesn't really have error unless it's running out, the pointer is not very secure or it's very small. But, Wade knows what he is doing so you will be fine. 15 degrees off is a **** load!

Here's what mine looked like after timing the cams last month. The 1-4 bank cams looked dead on with the marks while the 5-8 bank cams were within the notch but not exactly in the center. I used Dave's piston stop to determine TDC

I also checked after five years and when comparing it looked as if there was not change. Not Even the width of. The line so i do not think the belts stretch an observable amount.

How many years have I been saying belts don't stretch significantly? Nice to see some verification. Can't stretch because if they did the pitch would change and the teeth would not mesh correctly with the cam sprockets and the belts would chew themselves up in no time.

So the OP's cams were 15 off. My calibrated eye ball figured about 12 from the pictures.
