I finally got the heads back from the machine shop with new guides. I am starting the cam timing procedure. My question is concerning top dead center. Normally on a motor the crank keyway is pointing straight up at top dead center. All the pictures in the service manual show the keyway straight up, but when I set top dead center the keyway is about 30 degrees before straight up. Is this normal, I don't see any way this can be changed, but would still like to know if it is normal.
    Thanks,
    Eric

I never looked at keyway. Go by #1 at TDC with dialguage or piston stop. That is the gold standard.

That is what I did but the pictures in the SM had me doubting myself.

When you put the front pulley on, the mark on the pulley will be straight up. The keyway merely aligns the pulley.
