The damn release to get to the gas cap won't open. I've tried shooting WD40 on the shaft that moves left to right. I've tried to use the release in the engine bay. Nothing!! This really ticks me off. Thank god I'm close to my house & not out on a trip. I guess I'll take off the rear wheel well & go after the solenoid. Any other thing that might prevent me from tearing the car apart.

Most cars with remote releases usually have an emergency manual release, usually in the trunk; sorry not that familiar with the 355, but should be in the owners manual

Try this: take a credit card or a popsicle stick, and get it under the fuel lid. While pulling on the manual release, use a little force to get the lid to pop open. Sometimes, if you replace the rubber gas protector flap improperly when you close the lid, it jams the piston.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

I had this happen to me this spring. The piston in the solenoid was frozen and I had to replace it. The emergency cable would not work because of this so I had to use a small plastic instrument to open it. Now works fine with new solenoid. Did you check the fuse? The solenoid was about $450 and took couple of hours to install. Have to remove the inside fender liners to get access to the solenoid.

Although mine has always worked, it usually requires me to push the button 3 - 5 times and sometimes a friend will have to get out and manually push on the fuel door, as I’m pushing the button. It's always opened, but never on the first push of the switch. marc

No, they do not share the same parts.

    348 uses 60868600
    355 uses 64307500 which supers to 65424200

Shape of the motors is different, pigtail on the end is different.

As mentioned in earlier posts, try some WD40 and work the plunger back and forth with your hand; that might "unstick" it.

    Bizarre.

    I stand corrected.

I suppose looks are decieving (because they look like the same fuel doors to me!).

I finally got it open by bending the plastic latch towards the front of the car with a thin knife. The plunger only moves a 1/4 inch back & forth now. So you can loosen 2 screws on the plastic latch which you can then adjust its depth for the plunger to latch. I adjusted the latch towards the front of the car a 1/4 inch. I can open the lid with the button but the plunger will not spring back to a locking postion. So I have to pull the plunger out to insure a lock before closing the lid. I WD40'd the hell out of it to no resolve. I'm just buying time here, I know it.

Might be worth a little time to pull the wheel and fender liner out, and remove the solenoid and see if you can disassemble it and free it up. But first I would spray it some more, and work the plunger a whole bunch....sounds like it has some crud in it that it making it sticky.

Removing it, would allow you to spray the hell out of it with some aerosol electrical contact cleaner/solvent...stuff that you wouldn't want to risk getting on the painted surface of the car. That will definitely clean up any stick cruddy stuff inside it.

guys WD40 is NOT good for any electrical contacts. its old school, and outdated. i would try AEROCROIL or PB-Blaster. then clean the contacts and coat them with a q-tip coated in di-electric grease.

The plunger is not really the electrical part...just using the WD40 to free it up....which has worked for many here.
I would be careful with using any real solvent type electrical contact cleaner, because of the risk to getting it on the paint...
