Thinking of getting a rear spoiler from ebay. Seller says it's made of fibreglass.

Are the original spoilers fibreglass or carbon?

    thanks

Let me know Sy if you want a picture of that bracing. If the diagram shown doesn't really help to show a mental picture of what it looks like, as jmillard is saying it is heavy duty. You should not only install the wing it needs the support brackets. 28 and 29 in the dia. are also important.

    Thanks guys.

Definetly won't be getting that wing now. Also didn't realise there was any supports underneath. Guess I need to do more research.

I really want to get a spoiler like the one in the pic below. Not sure what it is, but will find out from the guys that raced it.

Looks a little like the 355 Challenge one?

Not even close to the 355CH.....

Also, that 348 raced at LM you've posted used BBS modular centre lock wheels.

Out of interest. In what way is the 348LM spoiler, not even close to the 355C spoiler?
Whats the differences? Looking with my inexperienced eyes, they do look close apart from the concave side panels and i notice what i think is the single support on the 348.
Have you any other information or indeed photos of the 348LM spoiler?

If you want THAT wing, you'll need to call Michelotto (aka Costalotto). However, I bet they've got one or two in inventory!

I don't think that's a Michelotto rear wing. That particular 348 LM was built and raced by Simpson Engineering.

I'll find out for sure when I visit them to pick up my Le Mans engine in a couple of weeks. I do know for sure that they haven't got any wings lying around.

The Michelloto wing lis the one in the pic below.

I think my friend sambomydog may be correct in that it looks like it only has a single support.

    As you contemplate other wings, remember that if the wing is pressing the back down with (say) 500 pounds of force, you are going to need something that can take that 500 pounds of force and transfer it into the chassis without bending or failures. {That is where the bracing comes in in the challenge car.}

I have seen vipers with wings generating 1000 pounds of force, and much of the 'trunk' was converted into a subframe to transfer the force to the suspension uprights.

Informative post that one, thanks:) Never ever thought about rear spoilers having sub frames. Your post makes sense.

Sorry mate, but the terminology being used by you and angelis is incorrect.

Alot of people confuse these two terms and also use them as though they are interchangable.

A wing is not a spoiler and a spoiler is not a wing, or atleast this was the case when I was involved in race car designs.

If you and angelis are talking about the rear wing then they are basically the same. However if you are talking about the spoiler(aka front air dam) then there is significant difference.

Wing variations were common away from official CH sanctioned races.

Here is a pic of a single plane wing which when mounted and depending on viewing angle appears to have a single mount but in fact are two mounts placed closed together and sharing a single bottom mounting plate.

Sorry but I'm too cheap to replace my broken camera and this is the only shop pic I have for now.

    I like that rear wing.

    Is it for the 355?

In the UK we call the rear spoilers. Since we created the English language, it is the correct term. :D

original 355 Wing is made in fiberglass, just the outside is carbon finish so it looks like a full carbon wing. compare to a real 100% carbon wing they are to much weight. the price what ferrari is asking for it is never worth.

i know, I owned one and let made a copy in 100% carbon fiber.

Now that depends were in the world you are. As Angelis has already said, in the UK we call the rear "wing" a rear spoiler or a rear wing. Also what you call a fender, we also call a wing. You say "fender" in the UK and we think you are talking about a front or rear bumper. We also use gas in a very diferent mannor to what you do. Your pump it in your cars as a liquid fuel, our gas you cant see but only smell and is used to heat our homes.
As angelis said, our language :D

There was a time when the thing on the front was called a diplane, the fense on the back of the tail was a spoiler, and an aerofoil shape was called a wing.
