355 CHALLENGE EXHAUST SPECS 95 Vs 97 and general rules

This came up in another thread and as Pete is NEVER, EVER worong about anything I thought it worthy of a new thread. Hopefully it will only take 4-5 posts before it gets off topic.

I know that it is hard for you to comprehend; but you are wrong on the 355 challenge 1997 exhaust. In 1997, the hollow "Y" piece was introduced. This removed the cats at the top part of the system. Your "1995" spec has this fitted, presumably bought and fitted late in it's career. I think that is the only bit of the 97 kit that your car has.

The above statement is incorrect- You state "They" implying ALL 355 Challenge's only run the one exhaust configuration. This is ABSOLUTELY NOT CORRECT. What your car runs now/historically is irrelavant to that statement.

Don't make me get the parts books out to prove it.........

BTW, your car could not possibly have been delivered in it's current configuration in 1995. The hollow "Y" piece did NOT exist.

SOOOOOOO, IN THE INTERESTS OF SOME SATURDAY NIGHT ENTERTAINMENT:

ATTACHMENT ONE shows the GENERAL RULES OF COMPETITION. The cars can only be modified with the parts contained in the Challenge kit. If it isn't in the parts list, standard parts are used and can't be modified or changed.

ATTACHMENT TWO shows the spare parts diagram for the 1995 spec 355 Challenge exhaust. It is basically a light weight muffler. There is another option which loses the muffler all together; but the noise level is simply devastating in the extreme. This spec is the spec that PETE PERFECT'S car had to leave the factory in- no if's, no buts.

ATTACHMENT THREE shows the spare parts diagram for the 1997 specification exhaust sytem. Note the appearance of the hollow "Y" piece
(# 13 on diagram), the bypass valve deletion (#9 on the diagram) and some low resistance CATALYTIC CONVERTORS- remember Pete's "They run no cats, no bypass and a challenge exhaust..that's it!"

ATTACHMENT FOUR shows the fitting instructions for the 1997 exhaust.

Now, it is pretty clear to me that the 1997 hollow "Y" piece and bypass valve deletion could not ALWAYS have been fitted to PP's 1995 spec car as the parts didn't exist before 1997. I have held the standard "Y" piece and the 1997 spec "Y" piece in my hands. The standard one has a honeycomb of catalyst in it. The 1997 "Y" piece is totally hollow. In addition, the pipe (#9 in diagram) that deletes the exhaust by pass valve could also not have been fitted at the factory.


Draw your own conclusions observers. No doubt Peter perfect will have some esoteric excuse for his error........

Can't admit you are wrong ever, no matter what the evidence to the contrary. We are all used to it by now.

 

You DH, the standard cars Y piece has CATS and is what your car left the factory with. See the parts diagram. The hollow Y piece is part of the 1997 kit- see the diagram.
IF your car has the hollow Y piece, it is part of the 1997 kit and was fitted by someone after the car left the factory. Irrefutable FACT.

The 2 "Y" pieces even have different part numbers.

BTW, I wouldn't have a clue what the hollow "Y" Piece cost me as it was part of the 1997 KIT as a whole. I didn't buy any of it individually. I know what the entire kit costs; but couldn't have boasted as per the quote "I clearly remember you going ON and ON and ON about how you had this wonderful hollow Y piece that you paid a fortune for, and boasting about how much better it was than what my car had."

I think you do need evidence to back your claim up, unless you are happy to look like a total tosser.

 

I think the evidence is quite overwhelming. I'll leave it to do the talking and others to judge for themselves.
