    Hi Everyone.

I recently just purchased a factory built 97 Challenge in Giallo. As much as I love the rawness of the Challenge Exhaust, I prefer a more refined high pitched system as well as having valves as will be street driven, I know this topic has been thrashed to death but I haven't found a concrete answer on what I'm looking for.

So far from my research the exhausts that suit MY tastes are Kreissieg and the ITO System.

At the moment heading towards Kreissieg although a little confused about which is the most superior option to choose from, stage 5, etc etc.

I have no budget for the system although my goal is to have the highest pitched, screaming system as well as valves.

Would love everyone's input, also does anyone know if I will run into difficulty fitting an aftermarket system as its a challenge car?

    Regards,

The ultimate was the 8 into one exhaust. The sound was intoxicating. It helped the performance of the engine.

The Kreissieg is kind of heavy iirc, no idea on the ITO. Capristo is the other one that has the high pitched scream, weighs around 35lbs. I had one on my car and liked it but traded it for some refinished challenge wheels. Then went back to factory and now to the unmuffled challenge exhaust. It's a little much on longer trips, so now I'm looking to go back to the Capristo or similar. I have high flow metallic primary cats and Kreissieg 2.7 swirl y-pipe. One of my main considerations is not adding a lot of weight back onto the car vs. the roughly 8lbs challenge exhaust.

One person who received a valved Kriessieg (ultimate version) very recently said it feels like it weighs less than Capristo. Tim weighed his out at 21 lbs, but I don’t think the way he weighed it is reliable for accuracy.

    Ito is 35lbs.

For a valved setup, the highest pitched mufflers for the 355 are Ito , Kida Special, and Capristo imo. For a non-valved, lightweight, I-dont-give-an-F setup, Tomei Sports is indisputable imo. Saclam full setup is a few notches lower.

For a valved setup, to preserve F1 pitch, my opinion is to avoid headers which are 4-1 design unless it’s proven with absolute certainty to have a higher pitch. Kline manifolds are 4-1 and the car on Youtube which has the full Kline setup doesn’t appear to have the pitch I’m used to hearing. Perhaps if he swapped to a 4-2-1 manifold, F1 pitch would improve. It’s a shame really because the setup is really light and something I’m after.

I’d like to have a decent sounding muffler in the 10-20 lb range. My X-ost muffler is 27 lbs. My Larini muffler is 27 lbs. I prefer 10 lbs lighter and Kline Inconel seems to fit the bill.

I was also considering commissioning Tubi to build a light-weight Inconel muffler as they have done with other Ferraris. Ito is a no-go on a light-weight muffler. I tried. Was willing to order 5 units.

As far as Kriessieg muffler, there are multiple versions. My opinion is the Super Howling has more F1 pitch than the more expensive and complex Ultimate version. This is from watching and trying to analyze sample vids, but not concrete evidence.

The higher pitch exhaust systems have smaller diameter headers (more like stock).

Give your Challenge Special Exhaust Silencer a chance. It's "raw" at lower RPMs but the exhaust sound becomes progressively higher pitched as RPMs increase.

Here's my yellow 1995 F355 Challenge downshifting from 4th to 3rd gear to take Turn 8 at Watkins Glen International. After tracking-out, I stay in 3rd gear as I take the uphill straight to Turn 9. As the RPMs increase, you can hear how the exhaust note increases in pitch until the sound gets blocked by the trees...

That should work but if this is what you want your car to sound like...

...you'll need a custom exhaust; headers back to tailpipe. There is no valve with this system.

This would be great for track applications, as majority of my driving will be street looking for a more refined system with a cleaner note

I'm not sure what the difference in sound might be with the titanium v. the stainless steel Kriessieg mufflers. ShineKen would know more about that.

You've told us little about the 1997 Ferrari F355 challenge you bought. Is it still stock as delivered by the Factory and prepared by the sponsoring dealership? Were modifications made to make the car streetable? A 1997 Challenge cannot be titled, registered and insured and as such it would be risky to drive it on public roads.

Here in the United States, just a very few 1995 cars are titled and registered for street use. In its as-raced form, it is not a car meant for street use. It's a race car and is at home on the track.

It is completely stock (never registered or raced with 1300km) , doesn't even have a passenger seat, it is one of the few Rhd and I will be registering to drive on public roads in Aus, planning on removing factory seat and putting in to other buckets to preserve the original seat

Ahhh! So you are the gentleman who purchased the Aaron Kwok challenge car.

These are the only bucket seats you should put in the car.
