Is it possible/recommended/safe to mount the 355 Challenge wing without the braces? Has anyone had success either mounting the wing without the braces or manufacturing aftermarket ones? if so how much would those run up?

If you stay under 120 MPH the brace is not really needed.

The brace is "not all that effective" it is there to prevent the bonnet from being distorted, not for transmitting the wing load to the subframe.

Oh I see. Thanks Mitch. I've been thinking of getting a challenge wing, along with a separate deck lid, so I can swap back to stock whenever I like ...but it was getting a little steep with all these additional brace and brackets and all, knowing that they're not entirely necessary makes life easier.

I wonder how easy it would be to just MacGuyver up something effective in order to help prevent the bonnet from distorting.

Yassa, Bruce aka plugzit made a removable bracket for the 348 engine cover to adapt to a Challenge wing. Could easily be done for a 355. Brackets had rubber padding and acted as clamps on top of which the wing fastened. Pretty ingenious.
