For those who have thought about it.....

I have a 99 355 GTS F1 and I did the following modifications to my car from stock...
    These were before the mods
    Getting 0-60 in 5 sec
    1/4 mi at 13.9
and about 320 hp from the gtech meter

    In order

Installed Kingsbourne plug wires. difference from 6200 ohms, to 4200 ohms. noticeable good throttle response.
Installed Gruppe M intakes. Car ran at a higher pitch (sound) and a bit more acceleration but hard to really guarantee a diff (looks nice though)
Had dealer shop dial in my cams RIGHT when I did my 30K service at FOSV. Huge difference - night and day
Installed Hyperflow cats - awesome!!! accel, sound, etc.. but still lacking torque on the low end 0-4000 rpm range.

Checked with g-tech meter because dyno'ing the car was hard because of clearance at the rear... so... where am I.. ALL of these numbers are average runs.. I had lows and high.. DAMN F1!! anyway.....

    g-tech after mods
    0-60 in 4.6
    1/4 mi in 12.9 seconds
and read 350 HP (yes I added fuel and person weight)

I just got my chip tuned by Singh autosport (located in Fremont CA You can look them up on the internet) and they had to ship my ECU to the UK because of the 66 pin config. Nevertheless, I got her back with euro specs.

What a difference on the low end. It filled in the lack of torque from 0-4000 rpm range and the car really response at low rpms. rev limiter taken out, and the car mapped to my external improvements....... I did not feel it over 80mph as much as I did off the line and 1/4 mile times. It still is not a torque slut, but it filled in the gaps the car had..

what I got after a day of testing...

g-tech after final mod... rememeber these are averages!!! and I threw away the poor runs of my stupid driving skills at times.

    0-60 in 4.4 seconds
    1/4 mile in 12.5 seconds
and read 375 hp... no wind and top up. They advertise a guarantee of 30hp with my additions, so I was shocked it got that close.... I think if you calculate the the fly hp it comes out to about to around 446bhp...

Now I have to find a dyno in the bay area that can prove to the Fchatters it may be worth doing if you want to keep your 355 and beat the stock 360... In search and will post when I have time to get it done.

Costs: Hyperflows $2900; gruppe M $2200, chip tuning $1300; wires $150...and you all know how much a 30k serv cost..ouch!

my recommendation is the hyperflows, chip tuning and the wires were the biggest bang for the buck. The Gruppe Ms look really nice but I did not get the response variance as the other improvements.

    Carmine

What kind of times are you guys seeing with your car, since they all seem to respond a little different? and anyone know a place in the bay area to get a dyno?

Good god mine has been chiped (Hamonn) and also a De-Cated- Capristo and mine kicks out 328 rw bhp compared to a standard 355 of maybe 315ish rw bhp, And mine is more than a standard 360. But yours kicks out 375 rw bhp!!! Dam i will have what ever chip you have got dude. Mine was dynoed last month, we realy do need to see your dyno read out when its done mate;)
Do you realize you are knocking of the door of unbelievable dude.....crazy figures:D

    Hey,

I saw your post earlier.... I really cared about the times more than the hp number I was getting on the meter. I figure the times have to be pretty damn close. I had to run a few times to believe it myself. THAT IS WHY I HAD TO POST THIS!! I will do many more runs, but I hope that the dyno will show good results. I heard the g-tech meter reads high on hp anyway (too many factors, like how close I was to the exact weight of the car - if it weighs less than I entered it will show high. All the info is good, but I guess my key point was the variance I saw from before and after and the huge umph I got at the low rpms.... that is what sold me. When I got my car back from the 30k was the biggest difference. My exhaust cam was off by a tooth, or so they said... had to get the dials on it. I am amazed at how much of a variance there is on all ferraris... you are right, WTF!! I was able to beat a stock 360 without the chip mod. I got tubi too, but I don't think that made too much of a difference...

    Nitrous next? or not!

Very carefully chosen mods. Thanks for the info. Just needed to understand that I am running the test pipes and tubis on my 348. Are the hyperflow cats more effective than test pipes?

    Wow.

That's amazing that with 30WHP difference that you shaved a whole second in the 1/4 mile.

Find yourself a local drapstrip if you can't find a dyno. Check your mile/hour. Find ihow much your car weighs. That will give you an exact WHP reading.

At Classic Coach, we test these cars all the time. We have an all wheel drive in ground dyno here. It's amazing to put 375WHP on a 355 without any engine mods. Just boltons alone.

Sometime next week, we will be posting a Twin Turbo 355 with 475WHP running on 5lbs of boost.

G-Tech meter is not an accurate way to test HP. But the car on a dyno and realistically you're making 320-330, if it's over that on a dyno dynamics or dynojet, I will be very suprised.

This posting is not to sell anything but just information for those that OWN a 355 and were curious. NOW, regardless of HP readings... times have been accurate.. not to say there were some bad runs, but that based on what was done to the car it CAN beat a stock 360 (save your money), and the costs associated to the small improvements were not as huge as all may have thought! Mods done without going to the shop!!

I wanted to see what kind of "run times" people were getting out their cars, not a dyno sheet! Even dynos are sometimes off!!! acceleration matters!! I mean, I wish I had the money to buy a new 430, or a tuner car... but I like my car and wanted to get a little more out of her... THAT IS ALL!!!!

I also noticed that not many have tried the chip tuning, so I wanted to give all a feeling and cost regarding what I did, so THEY may want to try it!!!

I was trying to see, once again, other owners and some 1/4 mi times they have run with there 355s.

If you want to discredit information, do what you want to make yourselves feel better!!! The key to this forum is to share information on some of us that like to try neat things with their cars... I have tried other stuff, that I wish not to post because it may hurt the feeling of those "selling" outrageous cost options with no gain! A sheet is great, but who cares if you can't keep up when you are playing.... is the sheet for clinical studies to J _ _ K off to?

My peace said, and I will not add anymore on this thread.... but I would like to know what kind of 1/4 mile times people are seeing with their cars!!!! That is what I am curious about!! How off is the manual? Euro cars difference?

    Peace and chill out forum

There are many variables that can attribute to 1/4 mile times, the main one being driver skill which is why dynographs are taken more serious then 1/4 miles on a g-tech pro meter. I'm not discrediting you at all, I think what you have done to your F355 is great and admire you for modifying it as many are afraid to. I'm simply stating that it is very unlikely that you are dyno'ing anywhere over 330rwhp which is what most modified Ferrari's are in the range of.

Apologies if I offended you in any way.

You are probably right... Coming to you for the headers next year... all burned out of cash, gotta put braces on the kid first. The 30K service hit me hard!!

Now how can I rip out my F1 and put in a stick!!! :) Hate the "no" launch control. Need better suspension, getting loose! Have you heard about the 5lb nitrous kit for the 355? And awaiting the turbo kit someone posted earlier on this thread... The three Ss for a man: Sight (love the GTS), Sound (wahhhh), speed (keeping up with the jones's)

Go where no "ferrari" man has ever gone before! Got 34K miles on her already!!

    Kirk out

My experience with the G-tech meter with my 993TT is that it was very close if not right on the money. My stock 993TT showed 340whp and 12.75 seconds 1/4 mile on the G-tech. Which sounds about right as it is an AWD car that is rated at 408hp at the flywheel.

I want to get the Naperformance headers for my 1997 355 since it is my understanding that one can have the co sensor ports optioned in. Who has the best price on these??

I don't believe that Singh made any claims to me about HP increases for the 360.

They did say they optimize fuel burn for 91 octane. So, maybe what you are experiencing in the low end performance is just that which is fine with me.

However, your HP increases are quite impressive. 1/4 mile times are not of great interest to me but the overall performance is.

Riverflyer and I were considering the Singh remapping, and now I might try it. I just wish there were a better way to substantiate a before/after issue.

I Have 95 F355b with straight through cats and Millie Miglia race muffler, K&N filters, airflow meter sheilds removed, heads shaved for slightly higher compression ratio than standard but with stock computer chip. On the dyno it peaked at 232KW@wheels.
I was planning on putting a power chip in but the a/f ratios at peak were almost perfect from factory so the tuner advised against it.

Having said that this is my second f355. My first being a 96 with straight through cats & sports Millie Miglia muffler being the only mods. This car was a Japanese Spec car.
Not only was this car better handling, but with these limited mods an absolute rocket of a car compared to my current one.
    I still can't understand why.

I forgot to mention that the race Millie Miglia with straight through cats screams like no other. Makes Tubi sound tame! Can post sound file.

What does 232KW@wheels mean in real money (BHP)?? Also your tuner advised against a chip, why?? The proofs right above that the factory ratios are far from perfect ( look at my dyno sheets) So if the tuner has shaved the heads to give a higher comp. So what has he done about the belt timing?? And can i asume you are talking about the air flow meter heat sheilds situated bellow the meters??? If so why? And if not then which ones?
Can you go more in depth for us??:)

232Kw is approx 320 rear wheel hp or bhp. the air fuel ratios were at about 13 off memory.I can post a couple of dyno sheet. Cant remember if af ratios were on the chart.

The heads were shaved after during the last major service. After completing the service at 39K (last one was done approx 2 years ago at 28K) the mechanic got the car off the hoist and went for a test drive and tensioner bearing ceased. Fortunately damage only in heads, mainly valves bent. So they were replaced with new guides, springs valves etc and when getting tested were shaved.
When getting replaced I opted for the Hills Engineering challenge spec bearings from Ricambi.

The mechanic who had the car on the dyno is no Ferrari specialist but is a specialist of high performace car as he holds a number of records in Australia and regulary tunes & builds engines in excess of 1000bhp.

I forgot to mention that the figures i quoted were with 1 crook air flow meter (check engine light came on during dyno). I have since replaced it. Low rpm response and drivability have dramitically improved.

Asi mentioned the other f355 i had would have blown blown its doors off.

The airflow sheilds i am talking about is like a mesh at the mouth of the airflow entry and exit. They have seen a few KW gain at the rear wheels on other models of cars with similar airflow meters. They are there to protect the wire in the airflow meter.

The mechanic who did the service is a ferrari specialist in sydney.
The dyno tuning was done in melbourne by another mechanic.

Wow, you removed the mesh from the air flow meter?? Are not those there to straighten or smooth out the air flow??

The mesh is to protect the wire/element in the airflow meter. Its made a few KW gain @wheels on a car with similar airflow meter so I thought why not.

They are pretty cheap to replace. Same airflow meter as saab 9000 2.3 turbo

Also, the did runs with by pass wire up and standard. About 5KW@wheels gains in some parts of rev range with my exhaust setup.

Guys, please keep posting, and I would LOVE to hear someone else substantiate the great improvement Petrone1 had. Not that I don't believe his story, but a second success story would convince me to go out and buy every mod he used.

I have been thinking about modding my 355 for some time, but I don't want to go for a megabuck TT setup that could mess up my recently rebuilt engine.

Thanks for all these posts, and please keep it coming,
    David
