I removed the actuator and its not turning when connected to power. It just clicks. Its a sealed unit but i suspect that something is broken inside. I will need to cut it open.

    Easy to cut open?

Anyone have a line on a reasonable gear replacement? Ebay asking over $200.

Haven't done it personally, but quite a few have...

That seems to be the going rate. Still much cheaper than an actuator replacement.

I recently bought one for the trunk flap from Superperformance U.K. . £185 .For the front recirculating box .

Examination , splitting it open showed the typical broken / worn gear teeth like the pic ^ .

Additionally I removed the flap after hand testing for friction in its movement range .
I know it’s a tight fit supposed to be I guess from a recirculating pov …..but it was binding on the sides of the box .
    There were witness marks .
So with a angle grinder ( flap in a vice on the bench ) I trimmed it down so it moves freely in the box .
Used a Hills brass boss another £40 and now it moves freely no binding .Greased up the moving parts of the flap top plastic box .

I know peeps ( other threads ) blame the weight of the thing tearing up the gears , but as the cars age the various plastic cases in the HVAC also change and start to bind the bit that supposed to move freely.

So in this case it could be the tambour that needs freeing up throughout it range , of at least checking and lubrication to minimise the stain on the gearbox .

I've read through this thread and have been watching it closely.

After testing mine, my problem appears to be different. Put battery power direct to the motor and it opens / closes no problems at all.

To rule out the control panel, tried a known working control panel borrowed from another car, same problem.

This likely means there is a broken wire somewhere in the system between control panel and the motor itself.

Does anyone have a diagram or a very basic image of which are the power wires for me to test wiring continuity?

The air direction motor also has a built-in potentiometer (3 wires in addition to the motor wires). If the potentiometer is bad, the air direction will not operate correctly. Did you also test the potentiometer?

The control panel talks to an ECU and the ECU controls the motor. Could be an ECU issue also. The ECU provides power for the internal motor and potentiometer.

    Wiring diagram here:

(not for the faint of heart)

ECU = 10520 (bottom left) . Air direction actuator = 01262 (bottom middle)

I actually found your old post about the potentiometer, will do that next but i have a suspicion it may be the AC ECU.

Thank you, doing some research into ECU and seems some have had chips fail in it.

Even replacing the driver chips did not help me. I ended up just sending in the whole HVAC ECU for a whole repair service. Don't know if that helps yet.

Which flap/valve are you referring to? The photo you posted is the hot water valve. I originally thought you were referring to the air direction motor or maybe the recirc flap motor.
