355 cold running problem??

    About 30-40 seconds after starting my 355 I start to get white smoke from my exhausts.At first there is just a little bit but after a few minutes it builds up and there is quite a lot coming out-worse on one side than the other.This continues for about 10 or 15 minutes until the car is warm and then everything is fine-no smoke even under hard acceleration.The smoke is smelly and is definately white-not blue.I am averaging 9mpg under normal driving so I suspect I have a fueling problem.Does anyone know what it could be????

    Do you see water, "milk", foaming, or coolant in your oil tank?

    Do you see a rainbow film on top of your coolant in your coolant fill tank?

    Ive checked the oil tank-theres no coolant in it,likewise the coolant tank-no oil in there.Looks like another trip to the workshop.

    Did you last check your oil level with the motor hot and running, or cold and off?

    Correct, but that's too bad. If you had instead checked the oil the wrong way, and misdiagnosed the smoke color, then your fix might have been an easy an inexpensive one.

    Gasoline engines typically err with 3 colors of smoke:
    1. White smoke is coolant/water (often a blown head gasket or cracked block) being burned

    2. Blue smoke (sort of a whitish grey to my eye) means oil is being burned (sometimes from something as simple as overfilling oil)

    3. Black smoke is burning fuel (e.g. fouled spark plug, injector stuck open, etc.)
