Anyone else done EGR block off?
Installing Fabspeed headers and full exhaust for a friend. We want to remove the EGR pipe that runs across the top of the ports because it’s a bear to work the nuts onto the header studs and tighten otherwise. It took 2 days to remove everything. Had to dig deep in the toolboxes and use a unique combination of tools to get the job done.
Waiting on call back from Fabspeed but appears the 4 ports on their headers are M16-1.5 albeit only 10mm deep. Trying to source 8 plugs.
I presume I can then cap the two OEM pipes and call it a day?
There may be the matter of the vacuum line for the exhaust bypass valve to resolve as that appears to be source connected to the EGR pipe?
Is there a recommended alternate vacuum source to pull from?

Hi. The F355 doesn’t have EGR, but It does have secondary air.

The pipe that runs across the factory manifold on the F355 cannot be removed because it is welded in place. Apparently it can be romoved on the 348.

The spigot can be capped, here is a thread I started where I wend about exactly that..

& there are several other good threads too.

My car is a 2.7 & no CEL, cannot speak for the 5.2.

Exactly, and secondary air is only in the first minute (or so) of operation.

What word would you use to describe: taking a hack saw to the pipes and spot welding up the resulting hole ??

"Removed" seems to be applicable since it was there and no longer is.

Thanks guys. I did trace the pipes back to the air injection pump in the right rear. Glad this is an easy delete. Fabspeed headers have threaded M16-1.5 ports instead of welded pipes like the factory.

But what about the vacuum line to the exhaust bypass (upper pipes)? That tees into the secondary air pipes. If I just cap the hard pipes and leave everything else in place and connected to the pump, would the exhaust valve still function?

The bypass vacuum line just goes from the bypass valve to the solenoid. If you delete the piece of hard line attached to the air injection tubes just replace it with a longer piece of vacuum line or a different piece of hard line.

    Butchery

    or

    Irreversible

    or

    cheap

Take your pick. I can think of several other words too, but I’m too polite to post them & Merry Christmas to you too.

You can remove the pump, bracket, aluminium distribution pipe for the air, the vacuum check valve and store them all in a box with some desiccant sachets. It’s a couple of kg weight reduction too.

You can simply cap/plug/close the vacuum line on the engine side. Be sure to plug it because 1. You will have unmetered air going into the intake and 2. you need good vacuum to operate the bypass valve.

Behind the bumper you will find a bracket with two vacuum solenoids, one for the bypass, the other for the secondary air. Remove and store the solenoid for sec air and wrap the electrical connector in plastic and tape it up so that grime doesn’t get in.
