https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1998-ferrari-f355-motor-gearbox/ No affiliation- just posting as an FYI.
LOL.....The listing is for a 1998 engine and transaxle. The receipt for the service says it was on a 1997.
Would love that cleaned up, polished and in my house. Wife would probably not go for it, but would make a great, bar center piece in media room. Or suspended in foyer upside down as a lighting piece, hahahah. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yes. Manta Montage. I was obsessed as a teen, and the shape pushed me into working in endurance sports prototypes. ...and to answer crinoid, Yes, George Barris, the car customizer built several into the Cody Coyote for "Hardcastle and McCormick" Image Unavailable, Please Login sjd
I will be dissapointed if it breaks 10 because of the wire harness butchering. Concerns me if it even has pistons!! There was no need for that. If the plug was damaged leave it so we can see what happened. Makes me wonder what the real story might be??
The Montage was basically a Mcmlaren m12 replica. On Hardcastle the car sound was all sound effects it had a beetle motor in it if I recall. Taz355 has some good points one has to wonder about the real story....
That’s just how some salvage yards do it no matter what the car is. The harness usually isn’t worth the time it takes to unhook everything. When you’re paying people and time is money there’s no logical reason to waist time saving a harness that would sit on the shelf unsold for the next 10 years. I’ve thrown away more Ferrari harnesses then I can remember that I couldn’t give away. Considering I got $5k for the last nice 355 transmission I sold I think this is a money making deal at $10k or even more. I’d be all over it if I hadn’t just bought a Murcielargo engine and transmission and in the middle of moving. Bad timing for me or I’d have this one too.
Is there any difference in the actual engine from a 95 obd 1 and this 98 engine obd 2? I thought the engines were all the same and only the moronic was different and dual MAFs and dual fuel pumps.
Currently sitting at $6,000 with 5 hours left. I am sticking with my $7,500 tops because of the missing parts Missing the clutch, starter and the alternator...... and a few “other” unspecified parts. Also exhaust missing, clutch housing shot, and the wiring has been butchered. Plus they “assume” it was running before removal.
Similar but not the same. As far as mechanical differences, 2.7 is no knock sensors, lighter pistons, different heads, larger fuel injectors. If you want to run a 5.2 engine in a 2.7 car I think you would need to change one of the cams and maybe other components? (as I'm not sure a 5.2 engine has provisions for 2 cam sensors) and you couldn't run the 5.2 injectors.
You guys apparently have no comprehension of the parts market on these things. $7500 would be an absolute steal for the engine alone. Here’s real sale prices from the last 18 months. 129C long block, no accessories, no throttle bodies, no headers, no wiring, just the engine. 14k miles $8900 plus shipping Full set of throttle bodies and fuel rails- $1000 shipped The plastic plenums- $750 plus shipping. Transmission, with no clutch or pumpkin housing at all - $5000 plus shipping. There’s easily $15k and change there so if bought for $10k you could make a 50% return on your money. At $7500 you could double.
Just basing that off of what I've read here- https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/355-pistons.162479/ and here- https://www.ricambiamerica.com/355pset-high-performance-f355-piston-set.html
