hi, im looking at these two pictures of the 355 engine bay.. every picture that ive seen has those silver hoses at the back with the blue nuts but the second picture I posted here, you can see it does not have that.. honestly im not sure what they are, but why is this the only one ive seen that does not have them..? http://4-photos.ebizautos.com/8431/10046056/10046056_84.jpg http://photos.ecarlist.com/Q2/Uf/O8/m8/ey/jb/bx/Rz/ui/c1/OA_640.jpg
There is a recall for the fuel lines, that block with lines is that update to prevent the lines from being damaged and starting a fire. That car has not had the update done.
ok wow.. im glad I asked.. the second picture is a 1997 F355 Berlinetta ( Euro Version). it was imported from Europe to the US in 2006 and then imported to Canada in 2011. it is for sale.. and I may be looking to buy it. could the fact its a Euro version, be reason that the recall was not done.? this is an older picture, so it may have been done in between.. i will check with current owner. if it does need to be done.. I guess you bring the car to a dealer or certified ferrari technician to do the job..? is is still valid to do a recall at this point... and given its a recall i assume its something you dont need to pay for..? thanks.
It is possible that the recall was not done but if the riv did there job it most certainly would be done. When importing to Canada all recalls are supposed to be done.
yes.. very good point.. didnt think of that.. as soon as it was imported to Canada.. those things would have to be cleared and checked before coming in..
Actually, they don't verify if it's done or not....All they want is a letter stating that there are no open recalls. If somehow the person who brought it in was able to get their hands on a letter just to get the car across the border, it may have been brought in without those lines being changed. Also, any car 15 years or older is exempt from the RIV requirements and RIV has nothing to do with it so it's possible the car was brought in without any recall requirements. My guess is that it hasn't been done and I would push your local dealer to do it. It is a fire risk and they do the work for free, they did mine in september 2011 no charge.
ok.. thats very important what you mentioned..! so its a good chance it was not done.. and perhaps other stuff.. how do you check on recall work..? or the list of recalls for particular year/model etc.. this car has very well documented maintanance history, valve guides done etc.. Carfax and carproof, both good.. no issues, accidents etc.. but recall work didnt even cross my mind until I noticed this little difference.. so for example, if I go to a ferrari dealer, with this recall not done and/or perhaps other recalls not completed.. they have to do all work free of charge right..? even though its a 1997, theres no expiration/deadline to get recalls done for free..?
I purchased my 95 355 GTS in November of last year knowing the fuel line recall had not been performed. I took it straight to Ferrari of Central Florida and they did the recall free of charge. To the best of my knowledge there is no deadline regardless of year, simply because it would be a liability having 355s driving around with potential fire hazards.
It depends on when the car was imported to Canada as the recall started about 4 or 5 years ago at most. The car could have been imported earlier. The reason for the recall is that the fuel lines may rub if not reinstalled correctly after and engine out service. This chaffing will eventually cause a leak and possible fire. If your mechanic is worth his money then the lines will not be rubbing any where including the lift shocks for the hood.
Steve <-----Idiot! Mine have those silver hoses. But, I never thought to think about any recalls as to why they were there. I just thought they were an upgraded hose...lol tell me I'm not the only one ...please!!!! :>)
