    Thank you, Andy. Much appreciated. I like to do things the proper way and figure what I save in labor offsets the cost of proper tools and custom tools where needed.

    Now I just need to find time to get back to rebuilding the motor and other work on the car.

    I wrote to the manufacturer and sent some photos of what I was talking about and it seems they said it's okay to do this with the butt end off the lift:

    Hello,

    this should not be a problem if the car is safely secured on the lift, most of the weight will be carried by the cross beam.

    You should take when the engine is fitted that the car is then lowered and not lifted so that the weight of the back end does not cause the car to tip.
