Hello all, Just bought my '97 355 spider three weeks ago and the engine light has been on the entire time and back and forth to the dealership. After the error code has been reset it usually comes back on less than 24hrs later. The times that I have noticed it coming on I was doing a lot of 1st and 2nd gear driving downtown. The dealership is working with me to correct the problem but I wanted to get some ideas from the forum as well. The error code they are getting deals with an air leak?? Similar to the gas cap not being screwed on properly or something like that... They have taken the system apart (didn't replace anything) put it back together and I got the code again less than 25 miles later... Any ideas??? Thanks...
I would check the clamp and o-ring on the baffle box just forward of the mass flow sensor... Mine was loose which allowed air to bleed behind the sensor.
Yup, mine just did this...though it did not set off the CE light. I had the idle bypass valve come loose from just foward of the mass air flow sensor, right at (and below) the Y fitting. Huge sucking sound and the idle was bouncing all over the place.
Might also check and clean the O2 sensor connections...can;t hurt. Same with the mass air flow sensor connection...I clean with some aerosol electrical cleaner, then treat with Stabilant 22a.
I had same problem on mine. Check both airflow meters to see wire is intact. If not they can be replaced with SAAB 9000 2.3 turbo meters at a quarter of the cost. This is exactly that same unit as the ferrari one as they are manufactured by Bosch.
Wow! I have single airflow meter on mine (1997 355). I wonder if they have a bosch standard replacement for mine too.
