My '99 355 F1 is going through an engine out service and I am also putting in a new clutch. I am having the engine compartment and engine thoroughly cleaned and detailed, including painting the valve covers.

In addition to the cosmetic restoration tasks listed below, I am lookng for guidance on how to make the exhuast headers look better... not looking to replace them- yet. They are in good shape, but will look somewhat out of place when the cleaned engine and detailed engine compartment come together.

Can these headers be painted or coated ? - advice much appreciated. Will likely go the stainless steel route when I replace them in the future.

Work being done by Ferrari of ATL. It is in great hands.

List of add ons to the major:
    1. Detail engine and engine compartment while engine is out
    2. Paint oil tank, paint peeling
    3. Paint cam covers
    4. Paint both air filter housings
    5. Re wrap engine wiring harness with cloth tape
    6. Replace injector and top wiring harness connector rubber boots (10-12 total)
    7. Replace top muffler heat shield, get either aftermarket or good condition used factory part.
    8. Replace F1 pump relay
    9. Replace engine mounts
    10. Replace slow down ECU
    11. Replace parking brake shoes….
    12. Replace shift shaft seals….

If you're taking them off the car, I would just glass bead clean them. They'll be a uniform matte silver, then will turn an even light brown with heat. Other option is ceramic coating, but personally I wouldn't go that far for the OEM'S headers that you may be replacing eventually anyway.

There was a thread recently detailing the labor cost to replace the headers outside of a major service. Given the cost of that, and the cost of good headers from fabspeed, it's a good risk/reward play to just do them now.
