I found a cool old clip of former Scuderia Ferrari F1 driver Rubens Barrichello driving an 355 F1 spider on the track. The volume is very low on computer but works well played on the phone. The sound is wonderful!

Interesting, especially since it seems like he's having a pretty good time. Coming from F1 to any car must seem like a real bore...

Oops I misread the time... The 360 was faster by 2 secs per lap.

That is more like what I expected... I was shocked (because I hought the F355 turned a 1:05, but really turned a 108.5) initially. I reviewed to make sure and realized I was wrong, the 360 was considerably faster as it should be. Still, the F355 spider vs a 360 coupe, not bad showing for the spider... I would have liked to see coupe vs coupe or spider vs spider... while the delta would have shrank, I would be surprised to see the F355 best the 360, the 360 has a superior chassis.

That too, you ca see (on the small pic) that he thinks the brake pedal is the clutch!

In 2006 I was lucky to participate in the F1 drivers parade at Sepang. Had Barrichello on my Triumph Stag (sold after I bought the 348).

    In summary (F355):

    - he praises the slight oversteering behavior of F355
    - mentions that the gear change is slow
    - praises the chassis balance
    - he suspects that there are too much tire shine and it precluded him to go faster. he also mentions about tires being old
    - he loves the engine noise

JPM was just happy that he could run into people (which he inevitably did practically every Grand Prix) and still finish the race. He was better off with fenders and we were glad to see him go. :p

It's interesting to see how, in a couple of corners he uses a subtle bit of brake pedal modulation at the same time as using the throttle pedal mid-corner, in order to to adjust the angle of the car in the corner and pull its nose in slightly tighter.

This is part of the reason why top racing drivers are so much faster round circuits that Joe Public, they can re-align the car mid corner and get on the power a lot earlier when it starts to run wide.

Really? I thought it was just a way to test that the pressure is there before a hard braking... It's a common practice in racing.

I'd bet most of that 2 seconds is down to tires...

You'd carry out checking the brake pressure long before you got to the corner (at least I'd hope you would! )

In the clip, in a couple of corners Barrichello is just gently and subtly dabbing on the brake pedal at the same time as pressing down the throttle pedal whilst at the apex of the corner to help turn the car in - That's far too late to be testing the brake pressure.

They do the same in F1 cars - With the throttle pressed, drivers apply a slight bit of brake mid-corner to help pull the nose in if it's running wide (It's easier in an F1 car due to the adjustable brake balance), and it doesn't cost them any time.

With the power coming from the rear and a bit of front end resistance applied by the brakes, the car will rotate slightly around a centre point of the car, realigning it mid-corner.

You need a deft touch on the pedal and a great feel for the car to do it though as it is far too easy too apply too much brake pressure and make a complete Horlicks of the corner (especially in a road car). Definitely not something for the average driver to try on the public roads!

this vid posted in the general section by Flavio C compares the 355 to 360 to 458.......might be biased but the 355 looks the most fun to drive :)
