    hi all,

    just joined,so hello to all!

i have a 99/2000 355 f1,and have a gear change issue...all was fine, got home into reverse and went in ok,then went into neutral on its own, then tried to select a gear but no joy...

the car now if you try to select reverse make a noise like its trying to go in,but then stops, then once you select neutral again the neutral light flashes, also if you turn it off and re start it wont with the neutral light flashing,if you then try to select revere not running the neutral light stay on as it should and the car will start but no gear selection,

have checked the levels and on the mark,no leaks, and all dry, also had a look in the lower part of the bell housing and looks dry any ideas would be much appreciated indeed,

    thanks you in advance!

Welcome to the Group! Hopefully, your difficulty is caused by something as simple as the engine cover not properly latched. If that's not the case, it could indicate a clutch excessive wear problem, although that one shouldn't pop up totally out of the blue, without any warning. Let us know what you find out.

Make sure you have adequate voltage, a weak alternator can also cause this.

Is your foot on the brake? If I remember correctly your foot has to be on brake to get her into reverse or maybe any gear when stopped. I only mention this cause when I was new to 355f1 ownership I got stuck for a few minutes in a parking lot when I forgot this basic step.

Hope it's something easy like this for you.

hi all, many thanks for your reply's and welcome!

ok so got a few hours in the garage today,i removed the f1 relay and bench tested it,and it is not changing over as it should,so did a little research and have a new one coming in the mail,so once that turns up will let you know how that goes!

fingers crossed its not the pump....! also today checked the engine cover latch, levels and fuses so i think the relay is a good next step,as it is the old/o.e type and now have the tyco one coming, will keep you posted!

    best regards.

The guy posted twice over three and a half years ago so I doubt he's going to pop up to answer the question. I guess we have to assume it did and the car has never had any more trouble that would bring him back to fchat.
