I've seen in various threads that it's good to replace the F1 pump relay preemptively. Why exactly is this needed? I've seen some mention of it avoiding pump failure, but not sure how. I guess if it's prone to failure at a minimum it would prevent you from getting stuck someplace without being able to shift.

And for those that have done this, any quick tips on the replacement p/n and where it is?

    Thanks!

The relay is a weak link in the system. If the relay sticks and the pump doesn't shut off it will burn out. The pumps are very expensive and the relay is an approx. $40 safety measure.

I just replaced mine. Make sure you get the new one if you change it. I think they are using the same pn now as in the 360.

For whatever reason when *that* particular relay fails, it fails in the always on position instead of in the always off position...so the pump runs until it dies.

Daniel at Ricambi is a great source for this part.

Maybe he'll find this thread & post the part number and cost.....

Thanks for the explanation guys, I'm sold. And I *just* received an order from Daniel today...(thanks for the hat!)

Is this behind the passenger seat area? Think I had read that in a previous post somewhere...
