Hi, I have just had a new F1 pump fitted to my 355 and wish to protect my considerable investment in this by ensuring the relay does not fail closed and burnout my new pump. I have heard that there is a relay that fails open and therefore protects the pump can anybody tell me where this can be purchased, or is there an uprated one that will replace the standard relay. I realise that changing the relay regularly can help but this is not guaranteed as a component can fail anytime. Any help appreciated Cheers Rod.
Rod- My 04 575M originally came with Ferrari part number 155437, Tyco V23134-B57-X203, I believe the same relay now recommended for your F355. I upgraded this to a Tyco V23134-B57-X266 with harder contacts that resist melting. There is now a further upgraded version, available from Juri in Texas for $56, that is a Tyco V23134-B57-X152, also with hardened contacts that definitely should not melt and fuse. In November 2003, Ferrari upgraded the relays on the 575M, 360, and CS, from 30 amps to 50 amps, with a relay already in service for other components in some Ferraris. Unfortunately, this required a new wiring harness with a different connector for the F1 pump relay and that relay will not fit the old connector. The upgraded 30 amp relays work fine and I have heard of no cases of either X266 or X152 failing. As you know, simple unplug and plug to change the relay. Very cheap insurance. F1 Pump Relay New Upgraded Model Gray Ferrari Part 155437 | eBay Edit- Great find on the BMW relay, which is X152 from photos online, and is available online from BMW parts suppliers for $15-25. Will have to pick up one of those myself.
go to our board sponsor - Riicambi. I bought one from there last year for the same reason as you - a little prevention. Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini Parts - Ricambi America, Inc.
See the reply in the 348/F355 forum. Updated relay available from BMW online for $15-25. Part number 61361393403. Tyco V23134-B57-X152 replacing V23134-B57-X203.
Hi Just checked relay on ebay and the Tyco has five pins mine is a Euro spec car and our relay has only 4 pins. Do you know if the BMW one got 4 or five pins Cheers Rod.
Hi Terry, thanks for info but will not fit Euro spec cars as four pin not five, really surprised they are different but thats Italians for you
Rod- The Euro cars have a four pin connector? Sure you have the correct relay? That does not show anywhere in the parts catalogs. Those show they all use five pin connectors, US and Euro, and the same 30 amp replacement relay until November 2003 (with a little extra detective work). X152 is a 5 pin relay. If you have a 4 pin connector, very simple, use part number 233100, the 50 amp relay introduced in Nov 03. https://www.ricambiamerica.com/product_info.php?products_id=343621
Yes it is suitable ...i replace them all the time it even has TYCO stamped on it. It is an ABS relay for a e36 bmw...Thats in canada maybe the uk it's different. Part# 61-36-1-393-403

Wonder what the difference is between the F1 relay and these: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/142229710-post57.html HIGH CURRENT MINI RELAY 12V 50A SPST V23234B0001X001 - 75301 Both are 4 pin, 50a Tyco relays?
Contact Juri on this site Via PM. He has the proper F1 relay that fails open instead of closed and at a great Fchat price I have two...one in the car and one on the shelf.
According to Juri it's the other way around, X266 an upgrade over X152 (switches on/off faster and lasts almost twice the cycles). He advised me to request the orange relay (X266) when buying the gray one (X152) on eBay since he only lists the one that people know about. Same price.
157991 is the same as Bosch 0332019103 four small prongs as fitted to Eurospec 355 F1 cars. I did not know they were 50 amp.
Having got my car back and checked the relay I had got it wrong it is a five pronged one. will try and contact Juri to purchase the x266 version thanks for all your help Rod.
Anybody know if the relay on the Challenge Stradale is un updated part from the factory or should I be shopping for the one you guys have mentioned here?
Carm- Early Challenge Stradales had the old 30 amp relay. The new 50 amp relays and wiring connector updates were introduced around November 2003 on the CS, 360, and 575M. Exactly Nov 03 for the 575M (Assembly Number 52556) and I assume a similar timeframe for the CS and 360. If you have the old one, X266 would be a good investment.
Hi Terry, thanks for that info. I went and peaked at the plate in the car and its stamped April 2004 so I may be in the clear. I will look at the relay itself next time I take the car out to be sure.
