My 97 355 GTB has a cracked right header and I am looking at replacing both with fab speed after market headers. Has anyone put these on their cars? Anyone done it themselves? Any input is much appreciated

    Thanks!

remember after you get them spend $500 on powder coating the $1500 on header blankets...Fabspeed will tell you you dont need them...but will powdercoat them for you and sell header blankets they say you dont need to you ...BTW they are made for cheap in China for Fabspeed.....best replacement headers? Hi Mark,

Many customers do this installation themselves, but I must advise that its a good chunk of the day to complete the job from start to finish. I see that you are in South Jersey, you could always just swing the car by our facility and we could perform the installation for you.

Let me know if you have any other questions, I would be happy to assist.

Thank you for the kind words Mike!

Let's keep this professional and on track..

First and foremost, majority of the aftermarket manufactures offer their headers "naked" because you CAN run the headers with no additional heat protection. Most customers take advantage of the fact that they can further protect their engine bay from heat by choosing to CERAMIC COAT the headers for $400.00 OR purchase specialty made Kevlar heat blankets.

Fabspeed Motorsport has and always will design and build our products in house – currently in Fort Washington, PA – USA. In order to bring the best possible product line to our customers, we do source certain components and assemblies from the best suppliers from across the globe.

If there was ever a question of what we actually do here at Fabspeed, please feel free to check out some videos of our facilities:

Thank you, and I am very happy you are pleased with your headers!

I have the Fabspeed blankets on my uncoated headers and they fit nicely and really keep the radiant heat down regardless of where they are made. They are a nice product. Radiant heat is less by feel then coated headers. I have had both.

How much labor is it too remove them? They have been great but I should have done black powder coat.

It would be better if the company just said these headers werre sourced from an Asian country instead of sugar coating and side stepping . their credibility gets damaged because of this .

I like fabspeed they have great stuff regardless of origin.

Look at Brian Williams..suspended for 6 months for a lie, integrity and reputation is what makes up a company.

And a testament to their quality...look at the 5 year old set removed from Watson's car. Tarnished but still going strong !

Did it myself, patience is needed with the bolts on the old system, although the header bolts themselves were not too bad... Getting the factory headers out required a bit of work if I remember correctly there were components that got in the way and I had to get the car raised up a fair bit to get it all done.

Budget time to do it right and do the entire exhaust system... cracked headers often are accompanied by significant collateral damage, so check your car for damage to the cats and do a leak down test. I have 3 years on my Fabspeed headers, they are holding up well, while not the finest header in the world (i.e. they are not built of inconel or 321 stainless), they did represent the best value for money spent. I would purchase again and they are durable. The motor mounts (I feel) need more protection from the exhaust heat, but that would be my only criticism.

4 years old & still serviceable. But I would expect nothing less.

However, there is more surface rust around the mandrel bends and welds than I would like to see. General surface rust across the tubes. Looks like it was showered in rust colored pepper.

Prefer not to powder coat, but they are at the coater now to get cleaned up and shot.

IMHO, If you buy these headers, just get them powder coated. The SS headers were not a long term solution for my car.

what are these header blankets from Jegs that I saw in another thread?
something like $80 for a set of 2.

that seems crazy cheap considering the blankets from Fabspeed are $1500??

Maybe its heat wrap? For some reason I find it hard believe that Jegs would be offering Ferrari 355 specific Kevlar header blankets for $80.00.

I'm confused too. this is what I'm trying to figure out if indeed the pic Bruce posted are the blankets from Jegs.

I don't have these blankets. I'm on stock headers.

but when I saw that picture and reference to Jegs which previously never heard of, lead me to look into this further.

m5guy is the user who said he's using these blankets.

I dont get it...please enlighten me. If your headers dont need powder coating or header blankets why do you offer them? Why cant you advertise your headers are made in Taiwan or China or where ever they are made? Fabspeed has talked a lot of smack about much work and development has went into building a set of headers it seems you dont build.....Stand The F up...if your headers and extra heat shields are 100% safe to run out of the box why do you sell header blankets and offer powder coating?

I have 80k km on my fabspeed headers so they do last.I did get them coated black when i did my major in may, they don't look that great if you don't coat them after awhile.I'm still on my org alternator but they are hard on motor mounts i'm on my second set.I did make up some nice covers this time so we will see if that helps. It is a fact that they do give some HP.I'm just doing a major on my friends 355 he bought a set of Tubi headers 2.5 yrs ago when the cdn dollar was at par with the U.S . With duty's and shipping they came to 8.7k...you could buy 3 sets of fabspeed headers for that.P/s if anybody needs a good set of stock headers with only 16k km or 10k miles PM me.

I sense a bit of hostility here.

Headers don't need blankets or ceramic coating, just like you don't need to up grade your Ferrari, or own a Ferrari at all - its a choice to have the next level of performance. As a business, we provide upgrade choices for our customers, what is adequate for one customer, might not be enough for another. Some customer run these headers with just heat shields, some customer opt for ceramic coating, some customers opt for blankets - the choice is yours and depends on your situation and wants.

To address your second point, as mentioned numerous times, in this thread and on Ferrari Chat in general, Fabspeed designs and builds our product line in Fort Washington, PA - USA. In order to bring the best possible products to our customers, we do source certain components and assemblies from the best suppliers from across the globe. Please feel free to come check out our facility - look at our engineering equipment, see our machine and manufacturing instruments, watch our fabricators cut, weld, and polish metal.
