My 96 spider failed on exhaust emissions: too high oxygen! The Cats seem OK & I am told the oxygen sensors rarely fail. Can anyone suggest the cause & solution. This was supplied by a main dealer 8 months ago, so the 6 month warrenty may not help. Also, can anyone recommend the best way to clean & protect the canvass roof?
Nige profile does not say where you are. If you are in the USA, then you may have a warranty, maybe not. Art
MOT implies Britian. Here in the states, all emissions equipment is covered for 7 years and 70,000 miles by federal law. Perhaps there's something similar over there?
Must be something lost in translation...what's the problem with too much oxygen?? Now nitrous oxides, that's something else... Gary
Emission are read with the following gases HC= hydrocarbons Co= carbon monoxide NoX= Oxides of nitrogen. which one did you fail on? At what engine speed did you fail? Idle, drive, 2500rpm etc. All this has be knowen before you can really determine why it failed. Maybe you scan and post the emission resluts for us?
Thanks for your replies. I am in the UK not USA. I am also on the UK session aswell, but yours seems more active. I don't have a scanner. The report for the cars test is as follows: Oil temp= greater than 80C. Cooling fan cut in. First Fast Idle test: 2250-2750 rpm: CO = 0.39%vol (needs to be less than .30) =FAIL HC = 124ppm vol (needs to be less than 200) =PASS λ (gamma symbol?) = 0.98 ( needs to be .97-1.03) = PASS Second Fast Idle Test: 2250-2750 rpm: CO = 0.03%vol (needs to be less than .30) =PASS HC = 13ppm vol (needs to be less than 200) =PASS λ (gamma symbol?) = 1.38 ( needs to be .97-1.03) = FAIL Natural Idle Test 950-1170 rpm CO = 0.01 %vol (needs to be less than .50) = PASS Overall Result =FAIL. thanks.
Slip the MOT guy a few quid, there are no limits set for the Ferrari so they used the maximum ones available - maybe you've gone over those. Mine passed without cats and Tubi.
The test results differed considerably on the first and second tests. I'd suggest a resit! Where in the UK are you based?
