    I recently purchased 355 Fiorano with 5700 miles. Magnificent condition and did the belt,clutch and new rubber. I am thrilled and love the car. I unlike the prior owners am going to drive it. The problem is squeaky brakes. I have been told that's the way the brakes on the fiorano are which are a result of the special brakes on this model. Does anyone have a suggestion to reduce the noise? If I put in regular pads will that work. I would sacrifice the high performance for silence. You thoughts?

    I don't remember Fiorano have special brake pads (not 100% sure, so please don't flame me if I'm wrong here) but just cross-drilled brake rotors compared to the non-Fiorano 355's.

    What # is yours? Any pics??

    Are the fiorano pads the same as the standard 355 pads?

    For squealing breaks you should try a little copper grease to the rear of the pads.

    I put the fiorano discs in my 95 355 with ferodo racing DS2500 which are supposed to be squeaky, and by putting some copper grease con the back of the pads and on the calipers (in the part where the pads slide) I have absolutely no squeaks in any situation, track or city traffic it doesn´t matter.

    I think you better put a smiley on the end of that;) Judging by the majority of the un mechanically minded members who post on here, they actually would take your advice:rolleyes:

    And some on the wheels surface so that nothing squeaks on hard braking or acceleration too ;)

    How to desqueak the brakes: Find a nice long country road far from constabulatory concerns. Run the car up to 90MPH in 3rd gear, and leave the car in third. Nail the brakes as hard as the road surface will allow without getting the ABS activated. When the car reaches 30 MPH, nail the throttle until the car reaches 90 MPH. Repeat 6-7 times--90-30-90-30-90-30-90-30. Then drive for at least 5 minutes without touching the brakes at moderate (say 60 MPH) to allow the rotors/pads to cool. {You will be able to smell the brake pads as they get orange hot.}

    {Also note: a day at the track will completely and uterlly desqueak the brake.}

    With stock pads this will completely desqueak them, with semi-race pads this desqueaks them "for a while".

    Any hard use of the brakes when the pads are cold will drive the pad/rotor chemistry towards squeaking. This means when you are cuirsing down the city road and the stop light turns yellow and you can stop and do, you will get the pads close to squeaking. The only way to avoid this is to avoid using the brakes at more than 0.5 Gs when cold.

    In any event, they are no hard to desqueak--as long as you can avoid using hard deceleration in th city, you will likely be fine.

    Try the Porterfield pads. R4S I think was the type, and never a single squeak.

    brake squeak is very common with high performance pads, both my 355 and STi squeak...and I have used grease on the shims behind the pads.

    The Fiorano cars had/have upgraded slightly more aggressive pads. This could be a large reason why many of the Fiorano 355s have squeaky brakes. similar to that of 575FHP cars.

    I recently pulled the the pads out of all four calipers on my 1995 Spider (2,600 miles), cleaned the side of the pads which face the rotor, cleaned the calipers and put the pads back in. Much less squeak. Going backwards there's always going to be a squeak because of the asymetrical shims between the pads and pistons.

    Update. My horribly pads were replaced with Porterfield R4S pads. No more sqeaks. Magnificent silence is golden. Thanks for the advice people.

    Eli, glad you were able solve the issue.

    I've noticed the same horrible squeaking on the Fiorano. Last year, I brought #25 to Monterey for judging in a few of the concourses. I took a platinum at Chateau Julian. The next day at Concorso Italiano were a few of the same judges. As I came squeaking down the golf course, one of them joked, "If I had known those brakes sound so horrible, I would have deducted a point yesterday!:D"
