I am considering purchasing a 355 and was curious if there are shop manuals etc. that are good and not rediculously expensive that would allow me to service the vehicle myself. I have never worked on an exotic but my Jaguar XJR is cake...surprisingly a lot easier to work on then the couple of Miatas that I have. Thank you!

I am the same boat with you. I found some online DIY instructions for 348/355 and after going over a clutch replacement and some other minor services (fluids) it looks relatively simple and I feel confident that barring an engine out belt change and valve service I would be up for most all of the service needs of the 355.

Here is the link for 348 services, you can also check the thread just below where I asked how hard could it be to work on a Ferrari.

I do most the work on my 355 me self. Not becourse as i have been acused of a few years back as an owner who wants the job done on the cheep. But becourse i have always been rebuilding engines me self from a young age;) And iobject to paying ferrari prices for simple jobs like changing oil for a few hundred ££££. There is nothing mystical about a 355 engine its after all still just a run of the mill piston engine. I have noticed there is an increase interest in maintaining the 355s at home, and is good in my book, of course as long as the job is done to a hight standard. I have not realy come across anything thats a mecanical mystery. Also there are people on this very forum and other forums that are very willing to give advice.
I find that the only time that my car would have to go to the ferrari shop is when its anything electrical or any codes that need reading.
I have the work shop manuals along with the wiring manuals as well. I got mine from another ferrari forum. So i am sure some one will offer to give you copys.
I say well done that man for picking up a spaner:D

Shop manuuals are ridiculously expensive and only available on CD etc etc.

Or you could go to www.the355.com

You'll find the Ferraris fairly easy to work on. As long as you never forget they are Italian and are very patient, you'll have no trouble, especially with the help available on chat. GO FOR IT!!!!

Not a big deal to work on. As with any car you will have things that can be a pain. Other than that, not a big deal.
